Back When I Was A Kid...
Well, like I mentioned a few posts ago, I just got back from visiting my parents in Ohio. I love visiting Ohio in the summer…it’s soooo pretty with all the green grass and trees everywhere. Never been to Ohio? Just check out the picture I took of my parents’ backyard…seeing is believing!
Anyway, the real reason I snapped this photo is because it shows my parents’ Lifetime 4-person picnic table in such a picturesque setting. I gave the table to my Dad about five years ago… for Father’s Day, I think. My parents love it! (Ahhh, for once I found the perfect gift!) It’s the ideal size to provide a little eating area/seating by their pond and it requires no maintenance. In the winter, Dad can easily just fold it up and hang it on the wall down in the barn.
As I slid the Lifetime picnic table under the shade tree one day for the kids to eat lunch, I couldn’t help but wish we had that picnic table back when I was in high school and had to mow the yard. Ok, sounds silly, I know. But, back then we used to have a wooden A-frame picnic table about the same size as a Lifetime 4-person picnic table. Even though the wood table was small in size, it weighed a TON! (Ok, slight exaggeration. But, honestly, I could barely lift one end by myself.) When I was mowing the yard, I would have to hop off the mower and pull the picnic table out of the way. Then a few laps later, I would have to hop off and drag it back again. If I managed not to smash my toes, the four wooden picnic table feet/legs would just stick in the grass and most times I would end up making “skid” marks where the feet/legs literally tore out the grass. Man, being able to simply slide the Lifetime picnic table with one hand would have made things so much easier! Oh well, I guess I can make it my “When I was a kid, I had it so rough…” story for my kids and grandkids!
