Over the years, we’ve told you about how our blow-molded products are made, and how our metals are powder-coated to protect them, but how does the whole process work, anyway?  I certainly didn't know before I started working for Lifetime.  But, here at the Freeport Center, all your products begin from scratch.  When I was first hired, I had the chance to tour the entire facility. And it was probably one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.  No kidding.  Did you know that in our blow-molding facility, our High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic starts out as beads that are pumped from the trains to the building silos?  The beads are melted and poured into the blow-molding forms. When the formed part comes out, Lifetime employees remove excess plastic and prepare them for a... More

The coolest thing about working at Lifetime Products is our dedication to innovate and make stuff that just doesn't exist yet. Our newest basketball system  - the Power Flex System - is my favorite system that we make because of just that.  In an industry that is saturated with competition, we were able to come up with an in-ground basketball system that is unique in many ways. First, we started with the height adjustment mechanism. Our engineers were able to patent new technology with a gas-assist, triggerless handle adjustment called the Power Lift® XL Height Adjust.  This new Power Lift XL is similar to our existing Power Lift® mechanism that Lifetime invented in 1996  - which was the first pneumatic height adjustment mechanism for basketball hoops.  However, our new Power Lift® X... A few months ago I forewarned you of the top three things to know before assembling a Lifetime Basketball Hoop. Today, I'm going to share with you some of the specific hurdles I alluded to in that post that we crossed along the way when assembling our own Lifetime Basketball Hoop (model 90228). To be honest, I'm kind of embarrassed to share my story with you given some of the pretty major "oopsies" we had.  After all, since I work for Lifetime, you'd think I'd know how to assemble the products.  Not necessarily true.  This was my first time assembling a Lifetime Basketball Hoop.  Let's just say, I can definitely empathize with our customers now! Before we started assembling, we laid out all of our parts and pieces to make sure we could easily find everything.  Thankfully, all the parts and bags of ha... More

So, a few weeks ago, I wrote about our decision to buy a Lifetime Portable Basketball Hoop - Model 90228.  Well, it's assembled, up, and the kids are loving it.  When the box arrived, the kids couldn't wait for us to put it together.  The cool thing about Lifetime basketball hoops is even though it's a pretty large product, it's actually packaged all in one box.  Granted, it's a big box (size varies slightly depending on the size of backboard you buy).  But, it easily fits in an SUV and probably in the trunk of most mid-sized cars.  By the way, did you know Lifetime actually invented packaging basketball hoops in one box?  Really, they did! Back in 1992. It may seem like a novel idea now, but that invention made it so basketball hoops could be sold in mass retail markets like Walm... More

One of the great things about working at Lifetime Products is our people. We have a great group of engineers in our Sporting Goods department. Last fall, we were trying to come up with a way to make our basketball system backboards more like the pro boards. With some late nights and a lot of design work, we were able to come up with our new Clearview backboards. What is Clearview? Well, I am going to tell you. With residential systems it is common in the industry to have a backboard brace behind the square target of your backboard. On these systems we use a clear material called polycarbonate or on the higher end systems tempered-glass to make them look like the pro's. However, the backboard braces were blocking your view through the backboard. We wanted to remove the braces behind the target so there was a clear view more ... More

Every year, the Lifetime sales and marketing team attends an internal Sales and Marketing Conference.  This year, things were a bit different. We had 30 kayaks and paddle boards to test paddle at Sand Hollow - one of the most scenic reservoirs in Utah. It is exhausting just to think about…..exhausting in a good way, of course! To kick things off with our kayak training a few weeks ago, we began with a training clinic and question and answer period. Many of our employees are just like you -  they are a beginner or are just getting into the sport of kayaking.  Our more advanced staff members were excited to help out as well. This was exciting for me as I love to share my love of paddle sports with anyone who will listen…….or paddle. :)  I discussed paddle t... As I promised in previous posts, it’s time to unleash a brand-spanking-new sit-on-top kayak!  This season we’ve introduced our Lifetime Tamarack 120 and the Lifetime Tamarack 120 Angler and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed! The Lifetime Tamarack 120 comes in a beautiful vibrant red with tons of added features like shock cords, carry handles, storage deck and a sealed hatch!  This kayak also features our new folding seat back!  It folds up when you’re using it to give your back the support it needs and then, at the end of the day, it completely folds down for transport.  What more could you ask for? But wait, there’s more! We’ve specially designed this kayak to be fast, track well and be extremely stable, so no matter where your paddle adventure leads... More

This kayak season we are stepping up our game!  Exciting right?  Most people have seen our many sit-on-top and fishing models, but this year we have gone in a whole new direction! I would like to introduce our newest member of the kayak family, the Lifetime Payette 116!  This is our first sit-inside kayak design and it is sure to knock your water socks off!  It comes in at 9’8” and is has the perfect mix of stability and speed.  The sleek design makes it a bit faster than other kayaks that are similar in length without compromising the stability you are accustom to in a Lifetime Kayak!  Think “best of both worlds”: speed of a longer kayak, stability of a shorter kayak.  The built -n seat and seat back make it comfortable while the molded-in carry handles make fo... Now that you've had some time to assemble that new Lifetime Portable Basketball System you got for Christmas, let's cover a few important things that every basketball hoop owner should know.  (Yes, that means this is important for you to read even if you aren't a brand new basketball hoop owner.) Portable basketball systems are convenient. You can purchase a Lifetime Basketball System and be playing basketball the same day. However, when you assemble a portable basketball system, it is important to always follow the manufacturer's instructions very carefully.  And, that means right down to the final instruction about filling your portable base. I have seen lots of systems with weights, bags of cement, or bricks on top of the base to hold it down - like in these pictures. This is a big "no-no" and very dangerous.&nb... More

Here it is - my official blogging debut.  As the newest member of the Lifetime365 blog team, I'm looking forward to sharing some of my personal experiences and basketball product expertise with you. 'Tis the Giving Season!  And, if you're a regular reader of this blog, you already know that giving back is one of the things that is extremely important to Lifetime.  So, needless to say, I was excited to recently have the opportunity to participate in giving back on behalf of Lifetime at the South Jeffco Sports Association (SJSA)  Holiday Tournament in Lakewood, Colorado. SJSA is a nonprofit youth sports organization offering playing opportunities in various sports  to kids age 4-17. The Holiday Tournament event was held at the Gold Crown Field House in Lakewood. The three-day tournament included boys ... More

Have you started composting?
For most of us in the Lifetime family, winter is on its way out. What does that mean? Time to start cooking compost! For those who dont know, Lifetime Products makes a Composter! (You can read all about it in my previous post.) The question was asked How do I separate my compost from my non-composted organic matter? Good question! First would be getting another composter. One composter would be for actually making compost in while the other would be for filling up. When youre done making compost in one, you can empty it and start using it as your filler and the other as your composter. Of course, this means buying two of our composters, which we wouldnt mind at all. ;) The second idea is what I do with my single Lifetime Composter at my house. I cant fill the thing - as soon as it gets full, the composting proces...

New Lifetime Tent Trailer - Perfect for Work and Play
I am very excited about Lifetimes new Tent Trailer. Not so much because it is a tent trailer (although that part is very cool especially for the camping family) but I am excited because of its diversity. After years of looking and deciding, my wife and I purchased our first home this year. We purchased the home brand new and, let me tell you, there is a lot of yard work to be done. We have tons to do to get the yard looking its best. We have decided to add decorative rock, as well as sprinklers and sod. This new Lifetime Tent Trailer will be perfect to haul them all. Trees and shrubbery are a must. We havent figured out what kind of trees we want to get, but its nice to know I have away to pick them up from the nursery when we decide. Wait a minute. Hauling rock, sod, and trees in our tent trailer? Yes! See, the new Lifetim...
