Each year Las Vegas hosts the Annual National Hardware Show where thousands of manufacturers and retailer buyers gather to show off the latest and greatest “home after market” products, which means all the products sold for the home, after the home is built. I was able to attend the (66th Annual) show this year and it was amazing to see the variety of new and exciting products. It was an opportunity for Lifetime to flaunt our own innovations. We met with all of our major retailer accounts, to show and demonstrate our newest innovations. Focusing mainly on our Lawn & Garden products, we displayed our sheds, picnic tables, raised garden beds, composters, Adirondack chairs, glider bench, convertible bench, 130-gallon storage box and 80-gallon storage box. The response on these products has been phenomenal! Life... More

Bar codes help make life easier from manufacturing all the way through the supply chain, and up to the check-out register. While you're shopping for products, you can look for better deals and more information by scanning traditional UPCs with your phone, an app, and an internet connection. Pretty cool, right? Something new that you may have seen cropping up on billboards, articles, advertisements, and even product displays and packaging is a new kind of bar code, a 2D barcode.  These new 2D barcodes are also called a QR code which is short for quick response. UPCs are a 1D (one-dimensional) type of bar code. Traditionally, a laser is used to illuminate a thin stripe across the barcode. A 2D barcode contains multiple lines of information and require multiple lasers to read. Since not many of us carry lasers around in o... More

Yesterday was a good day... I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, and set out to assemble a shed with Lifetime’s Prototype Shop Specialists (who I call Product Assembly Wizards) in the Little America Hotel grand ballroom. After a few hours of drilling, tightening bolts, and hauling through the kitchen—oddly enough, the best path to the loading dock — we had our own little corner with a Lifetime shed, composter, wheelbarrow, and Personal Table for a drawing to win the products. You may wonder why a person would be so excited to do all this work. Well, besides the fact that I’m generally overly excited about most things I get to do, I was thrilled to see six of our engineers and Lifetime Products as a company honored at the 2011 Utah Genius awards program!   Including its engineers... Since its beginning in 1962, Christmas Village in Ogden, Utah has grown to an extraordinary seasonal attraction. Each year thousands of tourists and citizens come to view the Christmas lights and cottages, drawing visitors from great distances as well as local families who have made it part of their holiday tradition. Spectators find themselves in a dazzling winter wonderland set aglow with Christmas lights and a unique setting of cottages modeled after Santa’s village at the North Pole. This year, Lifetime joined in the local community Christmas tradition by transforming a Lifetime shed into a cottage. Complete with windows, flooring and steel trusses, the shed naturally made for a great cottage in this winter wonderland setting! The steel-reinforcements on its plastic walls and roof gave Santa, th... More

As we welcome in the Fall season, we have to farewell the outdoor entertaining season… at least in most parts of the country.  For those of you gearing up for cold and snowy winters, it's time to start packing up your outdoor areas including your pool, patio, deck, and yard.  In the next few weeks, plan to cover the pool, clean the grill, and put away everything you won’t need again until next summer. Unfortunately, all the things that live in your yard and on your patio during the summer suddenly now need a winter home.  What to do with so much stuff?  Well, first of all, sort through everything and determine if you really need to keep it.  Often times outdoor items quickly get tattered, faded, and broken by the end of the summer and it's better to simply trash it.  Or, if it'... All Lifetime Sheds are very durable and built to last, but if you happen to live in an area that receives an excessive amount of snowfall and/or high winds, the engineers at Lifetime Products have designed a special shed accessory especially with you in mind--our shed weather kits!  We are now offering a Snow Load Kit for the Lifetime 8 ft and 11 ft storage sheds, as well as an Extreme Weather Kit for the 8 ft storage sheds. (Please note that these kits are not compatible with the Lifetime garden style sheds in which the doors are located in the longer side.) The Snow Load Kit consists of steel brackets to reinforce the roof truss and increase the snow load weight capacity of your 8 ft or 11 ft storage shed roof to 30 lbs per square foot.  The Extreme Weather Kit for the 8 ft storage shed includes bracket rein... Plastic storage sheds are a must-have for anyone that has a yard. Storage sheds in general help you to keep your tools and other “yard stuff” organized, out of the weather, and out of the yard. Bags of compost or fertilizer store well in a weather-proof shed, and if you lock your outdoor storage shed these potentially harmful bags can be stored out of reach of children, pets, or vandals. Lifetime plastic garden sheds have some distinct benefits over traditional stick-framed sheds, and don’t even get me started about flimsy metal sheds. Wood sheds need to be maintained to keep them safe from the elements. Walls and doors need to be scraped and painted somewhat frequently to keep the exterior weather-tight, shingles need to be replaced every so often. Insects and rodents love wood, it’s a natural elem... More

The 6415 shed Shed is an 11-foot by 13.5-foot outdoor storage shed unlike anything you’ve seen before. It’s made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that looks like wood siding and traditional shingles, but HDPE never rots, never has insect problems, never needs painting, and you’ll never need to re-shingle. But the 6415 shed shed isn’t a “plastic shed” by any stretch of the imagination. The 6415 shed shed has a powder-coated, rust resistant steel frame and rafters. It has lockable front-doors, windows, gable vents, and “attic storage,” and modular accessory system, the 6415 shed shed is a revolution in backyard storage. The 6415 shed sheds is available with free shipping from BuyLifetime.com. More

Ten Cool Summer Indoor Outings for Kids
School is out! Wait for it, wait for it. Yep, there is it, I knew I’d hear it soon. “Mom, I’m bored. What can we do today?” Sigh. Of course, there are the traditional summer activities of swimming pools, parks, and amusement parks. But, sometimes hanging outside in the heat and dripping in sweat just isn’t appealing. Personally, I try to so some sort of outing at least twice each week to help break the monotony. One day is usually focused outside around water either at a swimming pool, splash park, lake, or water park. The other day I try to find something to do that’s inside. Earlier this week, we tried out a new indoor play place here in San Antonio called Funtastic Playland. Wow, where were these places when I was a kid? It had a huge pirate ship, castle, monster truck, bouncy castle, and playground for the kids to cli...
Happy Picnicking - Inside or Out!
When we decided to give away a Lifetime 6' Picnic Table this month, we thought it was the perfect time of year since it's summertime and the popular July 4th picnic season is just a few weeks away. But, guess what? We learned from your entries that a lot of you would use a Lifetime Picnic Table year-round! Of course, those of you who live in warm climates will use the table outside all year. But, a lot of you who live in colder climates said you would still use your picnic table by folding it and carrying it into the sunroom, the basement for a sewing table or laundry table, or even store it but unfold it for extra dining space during the holidays. The convenient folding feature of the Lifetime Picnic Table definitely makes it a very versatile product. Congratulations to David C. of Riverton, UT. He was the lucky random winn...
Lifetime’s Community Service Gardening Project Yields Over 14,000 Pounds of Donated Produce
Man, how time flies! Its been almost six months since our annual service project with the Utah Botanical Center. If you arent aware, every year around one thousand Lifetime employees give back to the local community by participating in our community service project. Its something I look forward to each year and this year was no different; we helped clean and beautify the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville, Utah. Ive had the chance to stop by a couple times since the service project in May and was amazed at how much we accomplished. I also spoke to Dave Anderson from the USU Botanical Center to get a quick update on our main project at the service project, the Food Bank Garden we planted. The garden is used to teach individuals about gardening and the harvested items are donated to the local Food Bank. Anders...
