If there’s one thing we love at Lifetime, it’s food.  Let’s be honest here … who doesn’t?! So earlier this summer, employees started growing their own gardens for fresh produce, including some right here at Lifetime! But the hard work put into growing veggies isn’t where all the fun is. It’s in the eating. So for two months, we've been hosting our very own Farmers Market. Every Tuesday from August till September 25, Lifetime employees have been exchanging produce with each other during our Harvest Exchange. We’ve seen gorgeous peppers, corn, tomatoes, lettuce, kale, and just about anything else you can imagine.  The best part about this, is all the food that hasn’t been picked up by employees has been donated to the local Food Bank to benefit members of our com... This summer’s semi-annual company meeting was a brand new experience for me.  Over past years here at Lifetime, all employees have had the opportunity to hear about the progress and state of the company.  And since Lifetime is a privately-owned company, it’s important that the employees are directly involved!  What was amazing was the opening part of the meeting where we saw how the company has been featured and showcased in public relations this year. From a spotlight on The Price is Right where our kayaks were a showcase prize, to the local news where the work done in our metals and plastics factories took the front stage, to our service project at the Utah State University Botanical Center, and so much more.  I could see that we definitely made waves this year!  And these fea... Once a year, Lifetime employees volunteer time to serve our communities around us. With the work we did at the Utah State University Botanical Center this year, it got some of our employees thinking. And not just thinking….oh no!  It was a surge of excitement! The excitement became contagious and a small group of employees pooled their teamwork to start their own vegetable garden in a small concrete garden box in front of their building. After buying the necessary plants and soil, everything was planted. And as of today, the tomatoes vines are climbing high, and even the crisp jalapeño peppers are already on the stems! I'm pretty sure my mouth was actually watering when I saw it. But even that’s not the end of it. Because of their group work to grow fresh vegetables right at work, that passion for... More

We all know that smoking is not good for our health. But, sometimes we pick up habits that aren’t good for us. Well, I’d like to tell you about a few Lifetime employees who have taken a huge step to improve their lives by quitting tobacco... and something big that came from it. At Lifetime, we care about our employees' health.  As part of our preventive health care programs for employees, a few months ago, we held an internal “quit tobacco” campaign so Lifetime employees who wanted to quit tobacco could attend Lunch ‘N Learns with the Davis County Health Department. Each week, they would meet to discuss their struggles and ways to help quit tobacco. From this, three of our employees were able to kick their habit and quit smoking! What an accomplishment! Because of their ... More

Just when you think things couldn’t possibly get better…they do!  Lifetime is now one of seven businesses actively participating in the Utah Industrial Energy Efficiency Program (UIEEP). The program, which was initiated to help industrial customers increase their efforts in energy efficiency, has already seen massive energy savings.  And that’s not only great news for Lifetime, but for the members of our community. UIEEP is already taking leaps and bounds to encourage businesses to reduce their energy intensity and emissions, provide training and technical assistance as companies like Lifetime apply energy-saving efforts, and give credit for energy efficiency successes that maximize performance. As those who know us well can testify, Lifetime has been dedicated to the environment and our ab... More

May 5, 2012 was not only Cinco de Mayo but also a big day here at Lifetime Products. More than 900 of my fellow Lifetime co-workers and I had the opportunity to give back to our community by participating in Lifetime’s 7th Annual Community Service Project. This year, we helped clean and beautify the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville, Utah. After initial groundwork preparation by over 75 employees on Friday evening, 880 employees arrived in florescent yellow shirts (looking like tennis balls from afar) armed with gardening tools on Saturday morning and got to work by removing debris, rocks, and weeds; planting flowers, grass and trees; cleaning ponds; painting fences, bridges and gates and spreading bark to help beautify and improve the center's 1,000 acre grounds, gardens, and facilities for... You need a check-up with your doctor.  So, you wait on the phone to make an appointment that ends up getting scheduled several days later. You take time off work... drive across town... sit in the waiting room... see the doctor... and drive back to work.  Sometimes it can be a half-day adventure for even the simplest of doctor appointments. Sound familiar? Lifetime knows that trying to figure out how to squeeze a medical appointment into work schedules and school schedules can be almost impossible sometimes.  So, we decided to make it more convenient for our employees and their families to get medical care.  How?  We opened the Lifetime Health Clinic right at our factory!  Now our employees can make an appointment and simply walk a short distance to see a doctor right where they work.... We've been sharing a lot of new products with you lately... so you know our engineers have been busy.  Guess what?  We aren't the only ones who have noticed. Earlier this month, Lifetime was honored at the Utah Genius Awards ceremony as one of the Top 20 Patent Companies in Utah for 2011! The Utah Genius Awards are held annually and recognize the creative people and companies  behind Utah's economy.  The awards are based on objective statistics from the U.S. Patent and Trademark office, not votes. Last year Lifetime earned 20 new patents for our product inventions including patents for our basketball height adjustment, edge & corner for our table, and our playset. These new patents join our extensive patent portfolio of more than 500 patents worldwide.  It takes a lot of time and effor... More

Hide it Under a Skirt
My inspiration for this blog came from a design show I was watching on HGTV a few weeks ago – Summer Showdown. Two expert HGTV designers took the same exact family room and competed to make it the most functional and attractive for the family. Vern Yip was one of the designers. I love Vern’s design style….very simple, comfy, and cozy. And, he’s not over-the-top with whacky, impractical ideas like a lot of the designers. Anyway, the family kept a huge dog kennel in their family room. Vern very cleverly put a table over the kennel and used it as an end table beside the couch. He then used fabric to make a fitted cover for the table to hide the kennel and make the end table attractive. (Here’s the link to the episode. Click to the second picture showing Vern’s winning design and you can just barely see the dog kennel/end table...

Lifetime Products on Your Smartphone or Tablet
Back when I was a kid, my Dad asked me to look at some computer specs and "pick the one we wanted". He was a very frugal man and told me to make sure it would "last me though college". That was probably a bit naive, but neither of us knew any better.Today I have a "computer" with a much faster processor, more RAM, more storage space, and a significantly faster Internet connection -- it fits in my pocket and I call it a "smartphone". It really is amazing, the technology that we take for granted. Here at Lifetime Products, we've always used technology to solve problems -- not just because it's "cool" -- though a lot of it is really, really cool! Such is the case with smartphones and tablets! If you have an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Windows Phone 7 we have an app for you! Our apps put our information about all our products ...
