In most of the United States composting season is almost over -- or is it? Believe it or not, composting season just started! Just started you say? Yes! Okay, what do I mean by that? Well, think about it... the gardening season is winding down in my neck of the woods. All I've got left are cold-weather crops, and some unharvested potatoes, carrots, and red beets. We'll come back to those in a little bit.  All the other plants -- the tomatoes, the potatoes, the herbs -- have wilted with the frost. There's a lot of dead material to compost as you clean out your garden and prepare it for winter. That's why I say it's just the beginning of the composting season -- but there's a catch and a few things to look out for. Composting, as you well know, takes a certain amount of heat. Winter, as you also know, is relati... More

I love the autumn. The trees are changing colors, the heat of summer is gone. The garden is growing "cool weather crops" again. And, BackyardsInc.com (the website for the Official Lifetime Products Outlet Store) just got a major overhaul! Okay, honestly, why should you care about us re-releasing one of our websites? Simply put, we make our websites for you! In this revision of the site, we started from the ground-up, building the site with ASP.NET MVC2, HTML5, CSS3, and even a custom JqueryUI theme thrown in. All this equates to a faster website that takes less time to load, can display more information in a much more timely fashion, and takes advantages of all the current standards on the web. Product videos, buy online links, and even assembly instructions are now available at your finger tips. Don't take my word ... More

BuyLifetime.com, Lifetime's Official Online Store, has been doing business for many years, letting customers (like you!) buy direct for the manufacturer. Over the years as technology has changed, our product catalog has gotten larger, and even more information has been added about our products — all to help you find the information that you want before making a purchase — we even have product videos online for you. We've built the site with standards in mind, which has let our site work on a wide variety of web browsers and operating systems. And then everything changed!! People started getting cell phones with the Internet on them! Luckily for us, these devices generally came with up-to-date web browsers (the Apple iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad; and phones powered by Android). Our site looked pretty ... More

Notice anything different around here today? Yep, we gave ourselves a facelift!  We've been working hard over the last few months to move this blog from a boxed program to our own admin site for a bunch of backend technical reasons that I won't bother to bore you with.  More important to you is that, in the process, we also overhauled our look!  It may not be with Botox or hair color, but even blogs need a makeover every now and then. We started by changing up our look to give it a lighter feel.  We wanted to make it easier for you to read and quickly see teasers of several posts at once.  Want to know who writes for our blog?  With our new blogger profile section, it's easy for you to see who we each are and what we write about most of the time.  We've also changed up the way we've categor... I'm sure you remember that I'm the "technical guy" that blogs about geeky stuff, right? Here's another one of those geeky posts, so if you're looking for Thanksgiving Tips or something along those lines, this isn't the article for you. If, however, you'd like to see some of the nuts and bolts that make Lifetime Products the company that it is, you might just enjoy the read. Lifetime Products recently made the switch to Microsoft Exchange 2010. For those of you who don’t know, Exchange is Microsoft’s “Swiss Army Knife” server application. It’s an email host with LDAP & contact capabilities, it handles schedules and calendars, tasks and to-do lists, voice messaging, fax, unified messaging, syncing to Windows Phones (formerly known as Windows Mobile, formerly known as Pocket PC) and iPhones, an... Hang on! Let's Go 4-Wheeling with Our Yard Cart!
Good friends help friends in need. We had friends who needed to spread 13 yards of dirt on their lawn, so we loaned them our Lifetime Yard Cart to help make their work easier. What? Did you think I was going to say I offered to actually help spread the dirt? Hey, I said we were good friends, not great friends! (Just kidding. Marc Jenna, we love you guys!) Truth be told, the Lifetime Yard Cart was practically screaming for Marc and Jenna to borrow it. Why? Because Marc and Jenna live on an acre lot AND they own a 4-wheeler that can pull the Yard Cart in the trailer mode. This is the kind of dream job the Lifetime Yard Cart was built for. The measly six yards of compost that we spread on our yard by pushing the Yard Cart like a wheelbarrow was mere childs play compared the massive job that Marc and Jenna were going to tackle....
Water Balloon Fun...1...2...3...Throw!
Summer is quickly winding down. But, thankfully, August is one of the hottest months so there are still plenty of days left to squeeze in some last minute authentic summer fun. Here in Texas, its been crazy hot. Ok, insanely hot something unbelievable like 35 days over 100 degrees before August even started! I was tired of simply heading to the pool or waterpark to stay cool, so the other day I surprised my kids with some good ol fashioned water balloons. Sure, it took twice as long to fill them up as it did to throw them, but it was worth it to see the smiles on their faces and hear their giggles. My son had fun trying to throw them at me, while my daughter just liked dropping them on the grass and watching them pop. I grew up playing with water balloons by having a simple water balloon toss contest. However, my neighbor...
New Clearview Backboards
One of the great things about working at Lifetime Products is our people. We have a great group of engineers in our Sporting Goods department. Last fall, we were trying to come up with a way to make our basketball system backboards more like the pro boards. With some late nights and a lot of design work, we were able to come up with our new Clearview backboards. What is Clearview? Well, I am going to tell you. With residential systems it is common in the industry to have a backboard brace behind the square target of your backboard. On these systems we use a clear material called polycarbonate or on the higher end systems tempered-glass to make them look like the pro's. However, the backboard braces were blocking your view through the backboard. We wanted to remove the braces behind the target so there was a clear view more ...
