Memory of a Lifetime

Memory of a Lifetime

Memory of a Lifetime

The first time that I played basketball, or at least tried to, it was on a piece of plywood bolted above a neighbor's garage back in the mid 80's. I say "tried", because the ball never came remotely close to the rim - although it did hit the family station wagon multiple times.

That's what makes my first encounter with Lifetime so memorable. It was in my best friend's driveway in the spring of 1990 - I was 12. I helped him unpack the shiny white poles for his new basketball hoop, while he picked an ideal spot for it in the corner of his driveway. With shovel and tools in hand, we began to install what would turn out to be the hub of recreation for us and several friends over the next half decade.

While I didn't know then who Lifetime was as a company, I quickly became familiar with the advantage of their product. After the push of a broom handle, and a 'click', 'click', 'click' the rim was now on my level, thanks to the innovative Quick Adjust height adjustment feature. Suddenly I could dunk like Jordan, or drop a 3 like Bird. My most memorable shot came from the street as I closed my eyes, hefted the ball, and watched it bounce...off the house...off the garage...nothing but net.

I drove by my friend's old house a few weeks back, and the hoop is still there, along with all the memories. Last month marked 5 years for me here at Lifetime, but thinking back on that first hoop, I realize that Lifetime has been a part of the way I live since the seventh grade.

What's Wrong With This Picture?
Michael’s last posting talked about all of the basketball hoops he passed on his drive home. So, I started looking around during my drives as well. Normally, this Lifetime365 blog has been featuring upbeat, inspirational stories. But, the overall purpose of a corporate blog is to be open and honest. So, sometimes, it needs to serve as a reality check. Unfortunately, instead of counting how many basketball hoops I passed on my drive, I noticed how many people set up their basketball hoops improperly. I pass this particular basketball hoop in the photo on my way to take my son to preschool everyday and it just makes me cringe. It reminds me of one of those children’s coloring book games where you are supposed to find and circle all of the things wrong in the picture. This photo has so many things wrong, it’s too scary to count...
Lifetime in Hawaii
This year for Christmas, my family decided to take a vacation to Maui, Hawaii. My mom is the only one who had ever been to Hawaii before and that was years ago, so we were all pretty excited. It turned out to be one of my familys favorite vacations. We absolutely loved it and were able to get the most out of our time. From seeing amazing ocean life while snorkeling, to driving down a tiny, windy road through the tropical Hawaiian jungle, we were able to take full advantage of the beautiful island. As everyone knows, one of the main Hawaiian traditions is the luau. If you go to Hawaii, attending a luau is a must! The dancing is wonderful, and there is no better way to experience Hawaiian culture and tradition. Our hotel hosted a nightly luau, and much to my surprise, guess what tables and chairs were used.....thats right, the...
