Why No NBA Label?

Why No NBA Label?

Why No NBA Label?

Over the years, many of my friends and family have asked me why Lifetime doesn’t have the NBA logo on their basketball hoops.  Well, the answer is simple.  Money.  To have the NBA logo on Lifetime backboards, it would cost money. A lot of money.  Money that Lifetime chooses to instead put into the actual quality of their products.  Whether it’s using that money for more research, new manufacturing equipment, or improved materials, the end result is a higher quality product for you.

As a former employee, I can assure you that this philosophy carries through all aspects of Lifetime.  You won’t find any lavish corporate offices at the Lifetime Products headquarters in Clearfield, Utah.  No marble floors, revolving doors, or plush corner offices with beautiful wraparound windows.  Nope, far from it.  The Lifetime Products headquarters are actually in the Freeport Center, an old army warehouse depot.  Each long (almost windowless) building that Lifetime occupies houses a different portion of Lifetime's manufacturing process.  It’s not that Lifetime doesn’t care about their image, it’s just that they would rather invest in their products and state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies to better benefit the consumer, rather than invest in fancy, shamcy, corporate offices for themselves.  If you’ve never read the history of how Lifetime Products began, take a few minutes to check it out... it’s pretty amazing.  The owner started making basketball hoops in his garage and he still maintains that down-to-earth attitude... even today after 37 years of Lifetime's tremendous success.  You won’t find him driving a decked out car or flying around in a corporate jet, he’s just your average guy-next-door.

So, while Lifetime realizes there are some people who buy products based soley on labels, Lifetime feels it is in your best interest not to pour money into expensive licenses.  And, if customers do their homework and research when buying a product, hopefully, they will realize that the Lifetime logo truly represents quality and that is the only logo, brand, or label on the product that really matters.

What I do for a living- First and foremost, I'm a doting mommy of a second grader and a 4-year-old, and a proud wife of a USAF F-16 fighter pilot!  In my pre-children life, I was the Communications Manager for Lifetime Products.  But, once you're a Lifetime fan, you're hooked!  So, after a few years of hiatus, I'm now a WAHM and am happily back on board at Lifetime as a freelance PR Consultant.  In addition to blogging for Lifetime, you can follow and chat with me on Lifetime's Twitter account @Lifetime365 and on the Lifetime Products Facebook page!

Topics I blog about- How I use Lifetime products in my everyday life at home, for kids parties and community activities, as well as inspiring stories... and GIVEAWAYS!  :)

My favorite products from Lifetime- 4x2 Table, 30” Personal Table, Chair, Youth Kayak, and Wheelbarrow.  Although, our Shed and Yard Cart are pretty close favorites, too!

Isn't it more because you don't build the NBA System so it's not necessary to make the association?  Yes it is about money, to a point, but you have nothing to gain by promoting the NBA when the word Spalding is all over the NBA stuff.  I will say that you do make very good points about quality, quality should always be the first priority with any company, everything else should be second.

Only Three Games Left - Enter to Win a Portable Hoop
The NBA Finalsare in full swing. The showdown between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs has been going back and forth for four games now. Will the Big Three repeat their game-four performance or will San Antonios savvy veterans and young bench continue to cause problems for the Heat? Only three games left before basketball comes to a head. Even though the NBA season is ending, it doesnt mean the basketball season has to end. One of my favorite pastimes were the summer night spent in the driveway playing basketball (way back then, we had a Lifetime Hoop!) with my brothers and friends. A lot of time was spent pretending to be one of the legendary players from the 80s and 90s: Bird, Magic, Jordan, Stockton, and Malone (lets be honest, I have a little hometown bias on the last two). With a new generation, come new stars to mi...
