Garbage Stinks. Compost Doesn’t.

Compost your clippings!

Compost your clippings!

Composter.jpgI had the very unpleasant experience recently of dumping excess lawn clippings directly into my garbage can. The can set out in the sun for a few days before I brought it into the garage. A few days later, WHOA! The can smelled like a skunk had stepped in dog doo-doo, rolled around in raw sewage, and then died in there. I was reminded once again, that lawn clippings should not go directly into the garbage can!

I have a composter and do a fair amount of composting. To which, I add lawn clippings when I have brown material to balance it out. The ratio is 1 part green: 20 parts brown.  I am often asked by people who don’t compost if the compost stinks. The answer is no. That sounds strange because of the waste product that goes into making good compost, but it’s true. If the proportions of green and brown material are right the compost won’t stink. When done “cooking,” the compost just smells like earthy dirt.

Nothing like putting clippings in the garbage can! My advice, compost your clippings so they don’t stink up your garbage!

Tailgating Party Video Tips
In case you've been living under a rock and haven't noticed, it's officiallyfootball season again! Know how I know? My husband is glued to the TV every weekend and Monday night! And, he's constantly checking his fantasy football league scores online. Sigh. Personally, I just don't understand the fantasy football fascniation/obsession! Anyway, the start of football season also means the start of tailgating season! It may still be called a tailgate party, but nowadays, most people use more than just a tailgate when it comes to pre-game or pre-race festivities! In fact, quite often, RVs and buffet tables with canopies have replaced simple tailgates. Likewise, a rack of ribs or skewer of shrimp has replaced the traditional game day hotdog or burger. And, surprisingly, a lot of people never even plan on going to the actual game! ...
Lifetime Outdoor Storage Box Makes Great Boat Dock Locker
I spy with my little eye a Lifetime Outdoor Storage Box! Yep, while I was in Ohio visiting my parents a few weeks ago, I was happy to spot a Lifetime Storage Box being used as a boat dock locker at the local marina where myparents keep their boat. Although they aren't actually sold through marine supply stores (yet), Lifetime Outdoor Storage Boxes are certainly built to be ideal for a boat dock locker. Like all Lifetime products, the Lifetime Outdoor Storage Box is made of double-wall, high-density polyethylene that is UV-protected so it won't fade, crack, or peel. The Lifetime Storage Box also has a weather- and water-resistant seal thatkeeps the interior dry. Boaters will love the fact that the controlled spring-hinge lid opens to greater than 90 which means you can easily stuff large seat cushions, lifejackets, buoys, fis...
