Garbage Stinks. Compost Doesn’t.

Compost your clippings!

Compost your clippings!

Composter.jpgI had the very unpleasant experience recently of dumping excess lawn clippings directly into my garbage can. The can set out in the sun for a few days before I brought it into the garage. A few days later, WHOA! The can smelled like a skunk had stepped in dog doo-doo, rolled around in raw sewage, and then died in there. I was reminded once again, that lawn clippings should not go directly into the garbage can!

I have a composter and do a fair amount of composting. To which, I add lawn clippings when I have brown material to balance it out. The ratio is 1 part green: 20 parts brown.  I am often asked by people who don’t compost if the compost stinks. The answer is no. That sounds strange because of the waste product that goes into making good compost, but it’s true. If the proportions of green and brown material are right the compost won’t stink. When done “cooking,” the compost just smells like earthy dirt.

Nothing like putting clippings in the garbage can! My advice, compost your clippings so they don’t stink up your garbage!

Stinky
The basement, after almost two years of work, is finally finished. We are very happy with the way it turned out. This past Saturday I decided to move my tools out of the basement and into the garage, which meant that I needed to organize the garage to fit everything. I have been parking my car out in the driveway for the past year and-a-half because my side of the garage has been used to store stuff from the basement.I strive to be a minimalist but with a wife and two kids you are bound to accumulate stuff. Fortunately, I recently purchased a Lifetime Fold-in-half trailer. Well actually... my dad bought the trailer for himself but I claim it as mine whenever I need it. He also stores it at his house which isnt that big a deal since folds up to only 29 wide. With the wife and kids gone I wanted to get started on the cleaning ...
Lifetime Receives Utah Genius Award
I had the privilege of attending the Utah Genius Award luncheon this past week, on behalf of Lifetime, as we were awarded one of Utahs Top 20 companies with the most patents issued in 2009! The awards honor people, cities and organizations with the most patents or trademarks throughout the past year. This past year, Lifetime received 15 new patents! These patents cover a variety of our tables and our fold-up utility trailer. The patents join Lifetime's more than 475 existing patents, which protect our innovations and intellectual properties that our employees worked so hard to invent and design. A crowd of around 500 people gathered Wednesday at Salt Lakes Little America Hotel for this annual event. Governor Gary Herbert opened the awards luncheon with Doug Fabrizio of KUER radio as the keynote speaker. A product reception ...
Lifetime and Engineers Honored at Utah Genius Awards
Yesterday was a good day... I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, and set out to assemble a shed with Lifetimes Prototype Shop Specialists (who I call Product Assembly Wizards) in the Little America Hotel grand ballroom. After a few hours of drilling, tightening bolts, and hauling through the kitchenoddly enough, the best path to the loading dock we had our own little corner with a Lifetime shed, composter, wheelbarrow, and Personal Table for a drawing to win the products. You may wonder why a person would be so excited to do all this work. Well, besides the fact that Im generally overly excited about most things I get to do, I was thrilled to see six of our engineers and Lifetime Products as a company honored at the2011Utah Genius awards program! Including its engineers, Lifetime took home eight awards total. Our own eng...
