Burn Off Holiday Calories with Lifetime Fun

burning bball calories.jpgIt started with nibbling on our favorite Halloween candy. Then came the turkey and pumpkin pie yesterday… next comes the homemade Christmas goodies… and it's all topped off with numerous holiday parties that have endless yummy temptations.  Yes, we are in the midst of that dreaded season of holiday weight gain.  We have all heard it time and time again... control your portions, eat healthy, and exercise regularly to keep those extra pounds from packing on.

We can't help you with what you eat, but did you know that using some of your favorite Lifetime products is actually a great way to exercise and burn calories? That's right, between our Lifetime basketball hoops, kayaks, paddleboards, tetherball systems, soccer goals, and Driveway 3 Sports Sets, we can help you stay in shape and have fun at the same time.

You can find a lot of helpful calorie burning calculators online to tell you how many calories you burn (according to the weight you enter) during all sorts of activities… weightlifting to shopping and everything in between.  We recently used the Calorie Burn Calculator on HealthStatus.com as well as at CalorieLab.com to make a few comparisons to find out how our Lifetime products really stack up in the calorie burn arena.  It turns out that playing basketball actually burns more calories than most standard fitness activities!  It's true.  An average 190lb male playing full-court (5 vs 5) basketball burns 473 calories in 30 minutes… compared to 376 calories burned in moderate cycling or 302 when jogging!

Want some more good news?  Take a look at the calories burned during a few other activities using Lifetime products.

Calories a 190lb male will burn in 30 minutes:
473  5 vs 5 basketball
354  half court basketball
308  kayaking
302  casual soccer
194  casual basketball shooting
193  badminton
174  tetherball

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family yesterday.  Now, head outside with your favorite Lifetime sporting goods product to ward off those holiday pounds with some good ol' fashioned fun!

Favorite Fall Foods…Mmmmm!
Tuesday night was my turn to host our Air Force squadrons monthly wives meeting. The evenings in Texas are just starting to cool down so I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to serve my favorite Fall foods - soup and pumpkin desserts! I didnt want to spend too much time and effort on decorating since the meetings are supposed to be simple. So, I planned to eat outside in the cool autumn air and allow Mother Nature to provide my dcor. Well, unfortunately, Mother Nature didnt exactly cooperate with her end of the dealapparently she thinks low 80s is ideal for Fall!? But, after the sun set, it did feel slightly brisk. I borrowed three of bales of straw from a friend to set around in the yard as easy Fall decorations and extra seating if needed. I used my patio table and chairs, a card table and chairs, and my Lifetime...
Our Shed Arrives!!
Its been several months since I first wrote about wanting/needing to build a shed in our backyard. Great news - you no longer have to read any more about my shed planning or problems. Why? Because last week we finally built our Lifetime shed! Whoo-hoo! Applause please. So, lets start at the beginning. We had our shed delivered to us. Before the delivery truck arrived, we assumed we would have to move our car out of the garage to keep the shed package until we were ready to build. We are building an 8x5 shed so naturally the packing is going to be huge and in several boxes. WRONG! When the driver opened his truck, he only had twoyes, 2 small boxes. Trust me, I double-checked the packing slip to make sure he brought everything. After that, I then noticed Lifetime actually prints right on the box in big print box 1 of 2 and box...
We Went Wassailing...Sort Of
It's hard to believe that Christmas is almost here. We don't really have any big pre-holiday traditions of our own, but we do try to partake in some of the local festivities wherever we live. To help get us in the holiday spirit this year, we attended the annual Wassailfest one evening in a nearby town. You're probably thinking, "what in the world is a Wassailfest?" Don't worry, so were we! I've heardof the Christmas carol "Here We Come A Wassailing" but didn't really know much more.Once I read the lyrics and did a little more reading, everything made more sense!Wassail is a traditional European beverage, popular at the holidays. (It tastes kind of like hot apple cider.) Apparently, wassailing dates back to the middle ages as an earlyform of holiday charitable giving.Peasants would go caroling to each house carrying cups.
