Burn Off Holiday Calories with Lifetime Fun

burning bball calories.jpgIt started with nibbling on our favorite Halloween candy. Then came the turkey and pumpkin pie yesterday… next comes the homemade Christmas goodies… and it's all topped off with numerous holiday parties that have endless yummy temptations.  Yes, we are in the midst of that dreaded season of holiday weight gain.  We have all heard it time and time again... control your portions, eat healthy, and exercise regularly to keep those extra pounds from packing on.

We can't help you with what you eat, but did you know that using some of your favorite Lifetime products is actually a great way to exercise and burn calories? That's right, between our Lifetime basketball hoops, kayaks, paddleboards, tetherball systems, soccer goals, and Driveway 3 Sports Sets, we can help you stay in shape and have fun at the same time.

You can find a lot of helpful calorie burning calculators online to tell you how many calories you burn (according to the weight you enter) during all sorts of activities… weightlifting to shopping and everything in between.  We recently used the Calorie Burn Calculator on HealthStatus.com as well as at CalorieLab.com to make a few comparisons to find out how our Lifetime products really stack up in the calorie burn arena.  It turns out that playing basketball actually burns more calories than most standard fitness activities!  It's true.  An average 190lb male playing full-court (5 vs 5) basketball burns 473 calories in 30 minutes… compared to 376 calories burned in moderate cycling or 302 when jogging!

Want some more good news?  Take a look at the calories burned during a few other activities using Lifetime products.

Calories a 190lb male will burn in 30 minutes:
473  5 vs 5 basketball
354  half court basketball
308  kayaking
302  casual soccer
194  casual basketball shooting
193  badminton
174  tetherball

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family yesterday.  Now, head outside with your favorite Lifetime sporting goods product to ward off those holiday pounds with some good ol' fashioned fun!

What I do for a living- First and foremost, I'm a doting mommy of a second grader and a 4-year-old, and a proud wife of a USAF F-16 fighter pilot!  In my pre-children life, I was the Communications Manager for Lifetime Products.  But, once you're a Lifetime fan, you're hooked!  So, after a few years of hiatus, I'm now a WAHM and am happily back on board at Lifetime as a freelance PR Consultant.  In addition to blogging for Lifetime, you can follow and chat with me on Lifetime's Twitter account @Lifetime365 and on the Lifetime Products Facebook page!

Topics I blog about- How I use Lifetime products in my everyday life at home, for kids parties and community activities, as well as inspiring stories... and GIVEAWAYS!  :)

My favorite products from Lifetime- 4x2 Table, 30” Personal Table, Chair, Youth Kayak, and Wheelbarrow.  Although, our Shed and Yard Cart are pretty close favorites, too!

It’s National Play-doh Day!
Bet you didn’t know it’s National Play-doh Day today, did you? Not exactly sure why I know, I guess I just stumbled across it online somehow. I’m also not sure what you’re supposed to do on National Play-doh Day and who even recognizes or sponsors it. But, in honor of National Play-doh Day, I thought it would be appropriate to post of picture of my son playing with…yep, you guessed it…Play-doh!:) Kids love Play-doh. Parents love the idea of fun, quiet, creative play…but, deep down, most of us hate the mess it makes and detest the fact that the stuff dries out after just a few months no matter how tightly you put on the lid! A lot of my friends only let their kids use Play-doh outside so they don’t have to worry about cleaning up those gazallion little rice-sized pieces that get dropped on the floor. I’m not that hard-core, ...
What's Wrong With This Picture?
Michael’s last posting talked about all of the basketball hoops he passed on his drive home. So, I started looking around during my drives as well. Normally, this Lifetime365 blog has been featuring upbeat, inspirational stories. But, the overall purpose of a corporate blog is to be open and honest. So, sometimes, it needs to serve as a reality check. Unfortunately, instead of counting how many basketball hoops I passed on my drive, I noticed how many people set up their basketball hoops improperly. I pass this particular basketball hoop in the photo on my way to take my son to preschool everyday and it just makes me cringe. It reminds me of one of those children’s coloring book games where you are supposed to find and circle all of the things wrong in the picture. This photo has so many things wrong, it’s too scary to count...
Tetherball Comes Around Again - In a New Portable Version
My son is in kindergarten this year and I love hearing what fun things he does in school each day since its all so new to him. Last week he came home and couldnt wait to tell me about gym class - they had played tetherball! Wow, does that bring back some memories. Apparently, Im not the only one that remembers standing in line during school recess waiting for my turn to take the big swing. A few weeks ago, one of the popular Twitter topics was #whenwewereyoung. (BTW, you can follow us on Twitter @Lifetime 365!) I was surprised to read how many people tweeted about tetherball memories! Some fond, some not so fond...guess it depends on if they were hit by the ball!?! Well, good news! Tetherball is no longer limited to school playgrounds! Lifetime has made a new portable tetherball you can have in your own backyard or drivew...
