Burn Off Holiday Calories with Lifetime Fun

burning bball calories.jpgIt started with nibbling on our favorite Halloween candy. Then came the turkey and pumpkin pie yesterday… next comes the homemade Christmas goodies… and it's all topped off with numerous holiday parties that have endless yummy temptations.  Yes, we are in the midst of that dreaded season of holiday weight gain.  We have all heard it time and time again... control your portions, eat healthy, and exercise regularly to keep those extra pounds from packing on.

We can't help you with what you eat, but did you know that using some of your favorite Lifetime products is actually a great way to exercise and burn calories? That's right, between our Lifetime basketball hoops, kayaks, paddleboards, tetherball systems, soccer goals, and Driveway 3 Sports Sets, we can help you stay in shape and have fun at the same time.

You can find a lot of helpful calorie burning calculators online to tell you how many calories you burn (according to the weight you enter) during all sorts of activities… weightlifting to shopping and everything in between.  We recently used the Calorie Burn Calculator on HealthStatus.com as well as at CalorieLab.com to make a few comparisons to find out how our Lifetime products really stack up in the calorie burn arena.  It turns out that playing basketball actually burns more calories than most standard fitness activities!  It's true.  An average 190lb male playing full-court (5 vs 5) basketball burns 473 calories in 30 minutes… compared to 376 calories burned in moderate cycling or 302 when jogging!

Want some more good news?  Take a look at the calories burned during a few other activities using Lifetime products.

Calories a 190lb male will burn in 30 minutes:
473  5 vs 5 basketball
354  half court basketball
308  kayaking
302  casual soccer
194  casual basketball shooting
193  badminton
174  tetherball

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family yesterday.  Now, head outside with your favorite Lifetime sporting goods product to ward off those holiday pounds with some good ol' fashioned fun!

What I do for a living- First and foremost, I'm a doting mommy of a second grader and a 4-year-old, and a proud wife of a USAF F-16 fighter pilot!  In my pre-children life, I was the Communications Manager for Lifetime Products.  But, once you're a Lifetime fan, you're hooked!  So, after a few years of hiatus, I'm now a WAHM and am happily back on board at Lifetime as a freelance PR Consultant.  In addition to blogging for Lifetime, you can follow and chat with me on Lifetime's Twitter account @Lifetime365 and on the Lifetime Products Facebook page!

Topics I blog about- How I use Lifetime products in my everyday life at home, for kids parties and community activities, as well as inspiring stories... and GIVEAWAYS!  :)

My favorite products from Lifetime- 4x2 Table, 30” Personal Table, Chair, Youth Kayak, and Wheelbarrow.  Although, our Shed and Yard Cart are pretty close favorites, too!

Gotta Love Utah in the Winter
As a Utah native I am allowed to harp on Utah all I want. I do enjoy living here, but Utah has some funny quirks about it. Did you know Utahans eat more Jell-O per capita than anywhere else in the world? Not to mention the weird weather. We can have warm and sunny one day and a blizzard the next or even in the same day. When I was younger I actually snow skied and water skied in the same day. Weird weather was the case about a week ago when my wife and I decided to make a trip down to IKEA. As my loyal readers would know, all two of you, (thanks Mom, thanks Aunt Clara), I have been remodeling the basement for what seems like a lifetime. (No pun intended) We now have all of the major work complete and are starting to furnish it. The first priority was getting the kids toys organized so they could use the space to play in but...
Three Dreaded Words... Back To School
I picked up my sons registration packet for kindergarten yesterday. (Still cant believe my baby is going to kindergarten. Sniff, sniff. But, thats a story for another day!) Geez, how many forms can they make us fill out? So overwhelming and seemingly redundant in many ways. Amongst the huge stack of papers, guidelines, and forms was the obligatory school supply list. Wow, so much for just needing to buy a backpack, pencils, and notebook anymore, huh? The kindergarten supply list has nearly 20 items on it! Crazy! Personally, I was one of those nerdy kids that always got fired up about back to school time because, being the organizer that I am, I couldnt wait to pick out all of my new school supplies, especially my new Trapper Keeper! Ironically though, my husband came home from the store just the other day and said he saw the...
