Lifetime Harvest Exchange Shares Fresh Produce with Employees and Local Food Bank

Untitled.jpgIf there’s one thing we love at Lifetime, it’s food.  Let’s be honest here … who doesn’t?! So earlier this summer, employees started growing their own gardens for fresh produce, including some right here at Lifetime! But the hard work put into growing veggies isn’t where all the fun is. It’s in the eating. So for two months, we've been hosting our very own Farmers Market.

Every Tuesday from August till September 25, Lifetime employees have been exchanging produce with each other during our Harvest Exchange. We’ve seen gorgeous peppers, corn, tomatoes, lettuce, kale, and just about anything else you can imagine.  The best part about this, is all the food that hasn’t been picked up by employees has been donated to the local Food Bank to benefit members of our community. Often, having fresh vegetables in the home is a difficult thing, and that little extra help goes a long way.

And since we’re fans of competition, what goes better with a Farmers Market than a good ol’ fashioned Cook-Off?  We’ve hosted a variety of contests featuring the produce from our gardens. As each dish was judged, every Lifetime employee who visited the Market got a taste of the cook-off that day.  Amazing chili dishes, peach desserts, cookies, and brownies have been making my Tuesdays end with a little joy in my stomach!

The Lifetime Farmers Market has been a great place for our employees and their families to help each other. I, for one, got to meet new faces, and try a lot of new recipes that just about made me swoon.  I can’t tell you how great the peach cobbler or the caramel apples were.

This Harvest Exchange helped us share ideas for becoming self-reliant and promote healthier eating habits.  We have two more weeks of this great event! With two more cook-offs to go! I am SO excited for the Salsa cook-off next week, and the week after, on the 25th, we’ll have the pumpkin and gourd cook-off. Although this Farmers Market is only for Lifetime Employees, we hope it’ll encourage you to get involved in your own communities and seek out the foods of the season! Healthy Eating!

Position at Lifetime Products: Product Marketing Administrator. I am the copywriter and administrator for the marketing department—writing copy for ads, scripts for videos, editing copy, and just about anything else that’s needed of me.  I get to write and edit for a living…it’s pretty much a dream come true!

How long at Lifetime Products: Since May 2012

Topics I blog about: Lifestyle and News

Favorite products from Lifetime: I love being outdoors!  Most of my family vacations while growing up were camping or fishing trips of some sort, and so I absolutely love our kayaks and tent trailers.  There’s just something amazing about getting away from the loud noise of regular life and entering a place that’s peaceful just with family or friends, whether it’s grand mountains or a mirrored lake.  But I'm definitely itching to get my hands on quite a long list of Lifetime Products.

On a typical Saturday afternoon you can find me: My Saturdays consist of at least five things—errands & cleaning, hiking, reading, writing, and spending time with family & friends.  I’m a big fan of relaxing, and the reading and writing is like a mini vacation; a chance for me to go into another world and spend time with my other “friends” for a short while.  Sometimes that relaxation extends into my family and friends time as I catch up on new movies or television shows…I don’t even dare list all the shows I’m fanatic about (Vampire Diaries, Fringe, New Girl, and believe me when I say the list goes on...).   But most of all, living in Utah gives me a plethora of hiking trails.  Taking an hour or two to get away is just the recharge I need.

My favorite escape: BOOKS.  I’ve purchased (shhhh) about $300 worth of new books in just two months and read about twenty of them so far.

Other blogs/websites I can’t get enough of:  I’m a self-diagnosed Facebook addict, but I love reading friend’s blogs, MSN Wonderwall (Yes, I’m a celebrity gossip enthusiast), GoodReads, Barnes and Nobel, Pinterest, and GrammarGirl (a grammar must-know!), and of course my own writing/book review blog: WritingMindCelebrities.blogspot.com.

Building Our Lifetime Shed – Step 2
Since its been over a week since I last blogged, youre probably hoping that building our shed really didnt really take this long! Dont worry, it didnt. I just havent had a chance to sit down and write about it amidst all of our Thanksgiving festivities, preparations for family visiting, and Christmas decorating. As youll recall, after almost a full days work, we finally had our ground leveled and our wood platform built for our shed. We strategically planned to build our 8x5 Lifetime shed on Veterans Day since Mike would have the day off, but the kids would both be in preschool. We were under a ticking time clock five hours of uninterrupted, kid-free work time. Hopefully, we could build the shed before it rained or before we had to leave pick up the kids! We started at 9:30am. The first few steps required simply snapping to...
Let Your Orange Pumpkin Go Green After Halloween
My husband helped the kiddos carve our jack-o-lantern last night. Honestly, I don't know why we go to the effort every year because they kids never help. They both think it's gross and stinky. They do like the finished product, just not the actual scooping and carving process. Oh well. I guess we just keep hoping that one year they'll actually find it fun. So, after your jack-o-lantern glows for three or four nights, now what do you do with the pumpkin? Well, you could do what some of my neighbors do and let it simply rot on the porch. (Personally, I'd vote against that smelly option!) Most people probably just throw the pumpkin in the trash and think nothing of it. Instead, this year, why not let your orange pumpkin go green! Composting pumpkins is a great way to dispose of your pumpkin. Be sure to remove the candle and ...
