Stand-Up-Paddleboards for the whole family with the addition of the Hooligan Youth SUP!

Hooligan Youth Paddle Board

Hooligan Youth Paddle Board

IMG_5614_SMall.jpgStand-Up-Paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the hottest new trends in the water sports world. Over the past few years, it’s gone from a small time activity to a huge, world-wide phenomenon. Last season we unveiled our adult paddleboard, the Lifetime Freestyle XL SUP. This season, we wanted to make sure the whole family could enjoy this new and rapidly growing sport. We scaled down our adult paddleboard, added some new features, and made the Lifetime Hooligan SUP  - a fantastic youth paddleboard that fits a wide range of younger paddlers.

The Lifetime Hooligan was designed to be extremely stable and easy to use. We wanted to be sure those first-time jitters could melt away once the paddler realized how stable and safe this board really is! This board also incorporates a cutting-edge and exciting design element - a retractable fin! The Hooligan has a removable surf fin that helps the board go faster and go in a straight line. Unlike our adult paddleboard, the Hooligan’s fin can retract if it hits a rock or a sand bar. This helps the paddler stay standing and cuts down on surprising bumps and obstacles you might find submerged along the way. The Hooligan is also extremely comfortable for your feet. We’ve lined the foot recesses with EVA Deck Foam covering. This foam pads your feet so you can stay out there enjoying the water all day without having to worry about sore feet. The board’s lightweight design makes it easier for kids to move the board around on land and in the water!

We were so excited about this new SUP board that we took it to the streets…..well, to the water to be exact! We found a local Utahan to do some testing for us. Meet our friend Mac, he is only 10 years old and is already blowing away the competition in paddleboard races and events - on our Hooligan SUP!  He has been surfing since he was able to stand up on the board, and now that his family is here in Utah, he has taken up SUPing! We’ve also made it a family affair. Mac’s Dad, Gary, who is originally a surfer from Hawaii, has been tearing up the competition on his Lifetime Freestyle XL as well!! Stay tuned to the water sports blog for the rest of the summer to see some more great photos and updates on Mac and Gary as they take SUPing by storm.

Note: The Hooligan SUP and Freestyle XL SUP are intended for flat water use. Use in rapids and moving water is not recommended. Mac and Gary are professionals and have years of experience and training. Always wear proper safety gear and obtain proper training before going paddle boarding or kayaking.

Position at Lifetime Products- Watersports Marketing Manager for Lifetime and Emotion brand kayaks

How long at Lifetime Products- Since January 2012!  I came as a packaged deal with the acquisition of Emotion Kayaks where I’d been for over a year.

Topics I blog about- Events and news in water sports, places to kayak, and enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.

My favorite products from Lifetime- Any of the Kayaks and paddleboards.  One of these days I’ll get my hands on a Fold-up Trailer and a Camp and Tailgate Table!

On a Saturday afternoon you can find me- This question will always depend on the season!  When the weather outside is frightful, you can find me at one of the nearby ski resort enjoying the fresh snow and crisp air or snowshoeing through the mountains.  Once the sun is shinning and the birds are chirping, my Saturdays are spent outdoors hiking, backpacking, biking, paddle boarding or my most favorite activity of all, kayaking!  All while enjoying the company of good friends of course!

My favorite escape- Anything whitewater, whether it be kayaking or rafting.  A more relaxing escape would be taking my camera out into the wilderness to photograph everything from wildlife to serene landscapes.

Hobo Pies
One of my Dads traditions at the lake house is to build a campfire outside almost every night. My dad likes to eat popcorn around the fire, but when the grandkids visit, its time to break out the good ol traditional smores! After all, what kid can resist melted chocolate and gooey marshmallows smooshed between graham crackers? For a change of pace forthe kids campfiresweet treats, one night my sister-in-law introduced us all to Hobo Pies. If youve never had a Hobo Pie, youre in for, well, something different from smores. :) First of all, to make a Hobo Pie over a campfire, you need an iron pie maker, available in camping departments. Then, youll need bread and some fillings. In the tradition of pie, my sister-in-law brought apple pie filling and cherry pie filling. First, we lined up all of our ingredients on our Lifetime p...

How to Play Kayak Football
Last week, I had the fun opportunity to tag along with the Lifetime marketing and graphic design teams to test the new Lifetime kayakson Willard Bay, a lake just north of the Lifetime headquarters in Utah. I've kayaked before, but this was my first time trying out the Lifetime kayaks. We were using the Calypso and Daylite models, which are identical 8' molds with the exception of the type of backrest and color. Personally, I preferred the Daylite model because the backrest felt more comfortable to me since it came up a bit higher. And, the feature of being able to store valuables inside the backrest is pretty handy, too. As we've mentioned before, Lifetime kayaks are designed specifically for beginners and are, consequently, extremely stable. In fact, they are so stable that even when the photographer's dog would jump on a ka...
