Once a year, Lifetime employees volunteer time to serve our communities around us. With the work we did at the Utah State University Botanical Center this year, it got some of our employees thinking. And not just thinking….oh no!  It was a surge of excitement!

The excitement became contagious and a small group of employees pooled their teamwork to start their own vegetable garden in a small concrete garden box in front of their building. After buying the necessary plants and soil, everything was planted. And as of today, the tomatoes vines are climbing high, and even the crisp jalapeño peppers are already on the stems! I'm pretty sure my mouth was actually watering when I saw it.

But even that’s not the end of it. Because of their group work to grow fresh Clinic_1.jpgvegetables right at work, that passion for a garden floated across the Freeport Center and expanded in front of our new Health Clinic.

Seeing the potential in the idea, more employees, with the use of Lifetime Raised Garden Beds, some long planting areas, and more drive, planted a little farm. Now, it’s booming right here! Everything from corn to pumpkins, peppers to squash, and pretty much anything you’d need for some of my favorite foods: fresh corn on the cob, and homemade pico de gallo! Besides being amazing, this garden is also incredibly "cute."

Every employee, including myself, also was handed plant starters to anyone who wanted them! Peppers and tomatoes all went home with those who came to get them. IMG_5981.JPGIt was so successful...they nearly ran out of the veggies they planned to grow in the Lifetime Garden!

Besides the fun in growing our own veggies, or even the praise these employees are getting, the best part will be what comes next.  Using the produce, Lifetime will be sponsoring our own Farmer’s Market later this summer to exchange  everything that's become such a passion for us this year. Who doesn’t love fresh vegetables?

We can't seem to stop talking about what's going on here at Lifetime. We love the inspiration we’ve seen from our employees, and we're jumping in our seats, anticipating the rewards! Unfortunately, we won't be able to share any of our produce with you, but we'll be sure to share some photos and stories from our Farmer's Market in future blog posts!

Position at Lifetime Products: Product Marketing Administrator. I am the copywriter and administrator for the marketing department—writing copy for ads, scripts for videos, editing copy, and just about anything else that’s needed of me.  I get to write and edit for a living…it’s pretty much a dream come true!

How long at Lifetime Products: Since May 2012

Topics I blog about: Lifestyle and News

Favorite products from Lifetime: I love being outdoors!  Most of my family vacations while growing up were camping or fishing trips of some sort, and so I absolutely love our kayaks and tent trailers.  There’s just something amazing about getting away from the loud noise of regular life and entering a place that’s peaceful just with family or friends, whether it’s grand mountains or a mirrored lake.  But I'm definitely itching to get my hands on quite a long list of Lifetime Products.

On a typical Saturday afternoon you can find me: My Saturdays consist of at least five things—errands & cleaning, hiking, reading, writing, and spending time with family & friends.  I’m a big fan of relaxing, and the reading and writing is like a mini vacation; a chance for me to go into another world and spend time with my other “friends” for a short while.  Sometimes that relaxation extends into my family and friends time as I catch up on new movies or television shows…I don’t even dare list all the shows I’m fanatic about (Vampire Diaries, Fringe, New Girl, and believe me when I say the list goes on...).   But most of all, living in Utah gives me a plethora of hiking trails.  Taking an hour or two to get away is just the recharge I need.

My favorite escape: BOOKS.  I’ve purchased (shhhh) about $300 worth of new books in just two months and read about twenty of them so far.

Other blogs/websites I can’t get enough of:  I’m a self-diagnosed Facebook addict, but I love reading friend’s blogs, MSN Wonderwall (Yes, I’m a celebrity gossip enthusiast), GoodReads, Barnes and Nobel, Pinterest, and GrammarGirl (a grammar must-know!), and of course my own writing/book review blog: WritingMindCelebrities.blogspot.com.

Fold-up Trailer-- Extreme Dad's Day Gift
For me, it's often hard to shop for dad around Father's Day. Every dad's different, and mine is especially content with what he has. As he puts it, he "gets along just fine"... which is pretty annoying when Father's Day rolls around. Looks like MomGadget.com is out to fix this problem. The blog about gadgets and gizmos that make mom's life easier presents options for almost every type of dad and any situation. Whether you're on a budget, going in on a special gift, or if you have a little extra to spend, you should see something he'd like in their Father's Day of posts. Included in one post is the Lifetime Fold-up Utility Trailer: "What dad doesnt have stuff they like to haul? Whether its to haul something they just bought at Home Depot or just moving things from point A to point B. Men like to move stuff! The Fold-Up U...
Have you started composting?
For most of us in the Lifetime family, winter is on its way out. What does that mean? Time to start cooking compost! For those who dont know, Lifetime Products makes a Composter! (You can read all about it in my previous post.) The question was asked How do I separate my compost from my non-composted organic matter? Good question! First would be getting another composter. One composter would be for actually making compost in while the other would be for filling up. When youre done making compost in one, you can empty it and start using it as your filler and the other as your composter. Of course, this means buying two of our composters, which we wouldnt mind at all. ;) The second idea is what I do with my single Lifetime Composter at my house. I cant fill the thing - as soon as it gets full, the composting proces...
