New Clearview Backboards

One of the great things about working at Lifetime Products is our people. We have a great group of engineers in our Sporting Goods department. Last fall, we were trying to come up with a way to make our basketball system backboards more like the pro boards. With some late nights and a lot of design work, we were able to come up with our new Clearview backboards.

What is Clearview? Well, I am going to tell you. With residential systems it is common in the industry to have a backboard brace behind the square target of your backboard. On these systems we use a clear material called polycarbonate or on the higher end systems tempered-glass to make them look like the pro's. However, the backboard braces were blocking your view through the backboard.

We wanted to remove the braces behind the target so there was a clear view more like a pro-style system. However, the problem was if you remove braces, you sacrifice strength and sturdiness.

Problem solved! Our amazing engineering team was able to design a way for the backboard extension arms to be connected to the backboard out of site. Moving the position of the braces out and removing the brace in front of the shooting target actually made sense. Not only do you have a true clearview backboard that has a nice open feel to it, but you also have a system that has less wobble and is more sturdy.  To see the difference, take a look at these two pictures which show a traditional backboard brace and our new Clearview backboard.

Lifetime is always trying to improve and make our products the best they can be. It takes hard work and a great team to accomplish this. Look for these new Clearview backboards on our highend Lifetime Mammoth line which has been updated and improved, as well as on our Elite line sold at Dicks Sporting Goods Model # 90227, 90228, 90230, and 90231.

Water Balloon Fun...1...2...3...Throw!
Summer is quickly winding down. But, thankfully, August is one of the hottest months so there are still plenty of days left to squeeze in some last minute authentic summer fun. Here in Texas, its been crazy hot. Ok, insanely hot something unbelievable like 35 days over 100 degrees before August even started! I was tired of simply heading to the pool or waterpark to stay cool, so the other day I surprised my kids with some good ol fashioned water balloons. Sure, it took twice as long to fill them up as it did to throw them, but it was worth it to see the smiles on their faces and hear their giggles. My son had fun trying to throw them at me, while my daughter just liked dropping them on the grass and watching them pop. I grew up playing with water balloons by having a simple water balloon toss contest. However, my neighbor...

A few weeks ago, my husbands squadron hosted their annual Chili Cook-Off. Our chili cook-off is simply an excuse for a fun get-together. But, a lunchtime chili cook-off contest is also a popular way to brew up some extra fundraising money for your organization. Follow these simple tips and your fundraiser will be easy as banging a pot. Find Your CooksMake a sign-up sheet for people to participate in the cook-off. If you are going to invite the public or other organizations to attend, consider recruiting local politicians and business leaders to make a pot of their favorite chili. If you are hosting a more public event, ask well-known community leaders to lend a hand, or actually tongue, to your ev...
