Eeny Meeny Miny Mo - Picking Our Lifetime Basketball Hoop

CO house.jpgCute house.  Nice yard.  But, something's still missing.  Take a closer look. Yes, our big three-car driveway is just screaming for a basketball hoop!  Don't you agree?  :)

As some of you may know, my husband is a pilot in the military and we have recently moved - again.  This time to beautiful Colorado.  I'm thrilled to report that after 12 years of working for Lifetime in some manner, we finally have a house that has a driveway perfect for a Lifetime basketball hoop

It turns out that finding a great driveway to play basketball is the easy part.  Now, we have to decide exactly where we want to put the basketball system, whether we want an in-ground or portable system, and what model and features are best for us.

First things first.  Location.  After a quick survey of our driveway, my husband and I decided that placing the system centered in front of our side yard (over by the single stall garage door) would look best.

In-ground or portable.  Hmmm.  That's a tricky one.  I love the look of an in-ground basketball hoop in front of a house. It's definitely a little "classier" and cleaner, in my opinion.  And, it does offer the ultimate stability which is a huge concern for us since 50 mph winds are not uncommon where we live.  But, an in-ground also means we couldn't take it with us when we move again.  Plus, we would have to change our grass to pour a cement pad and right now I really like the shape of our grass.  So, for convenience, portable it is.

Now, the most difficult part: choosing a specific model.  Since I work for Lifetime, I'm familiar with all the different mechanisms, features, and benefits of Lifetime basketball systems.  But, rest assured, that doesn't mean it makes it any easier to decide.  There are two things, however, I know for sure I want:  1.  Power Lift height adjustment mechanism (because I like the one-hand infinite adjustment) 2. Shatter-proof backboard (because of the strong winds we have that I mentioned before).  Whew, well at least that narrowed my choices down... to a few dozen or so!  (Here's the thing, every account carries their own models, all with a slightly different combination of features.  So, the possibilities can certainly seem overwhelming.) Backboard size is my next consideration.  Since, my husband likes to play too, we want one that he can enjoy with the kids. So, we decided the backboard needs to be at least 52".

At our recent Lifetime sales conference, our sporting goods team told us about the new Clearview backboards which actually eliminate the backboard braces to create a more stable backboard.  Sounds almost like an oxymoron I know, but that's what our engineers said. And, it looks sharp, too.  So, since Lifetime has always been the company to innovate and revolutionize the basketball industry, I decided to try our newest technology.  I'm happy to say, we are now the proud new owners of a Lifetime Portable Basketball System - Model 90228.  That's my choice and I'm stickin' to it.

CO bball box.jpgThe box is here.  The kids are excited.  The driveway is waiting.  Now, we just need to find the time to put it together.  Stay tuned... in future blog posts I'll let you know how our assembly goes. Wish me luck!

I feel like I'm going to live in this house forever. The old owners have an in-ground one that's tipped over so we use the Lifetime portable one for actually practicing! I'd love to get a replacement in-ground one some day!

It’s National Play-doh Day!
Bet you didn’t know it’s National Play-doh Day today, did you? Not exactly sure why I know, I guess I just stumbled across it online somehow. I’m also not sure what you’re supposed to do on National Play-doh Day and who even recognizes or sponsors it. But, in honor of National Play-doh Day, I thought it would be appropriate to post of picture of my son playing with…yep, you guessed it…Play-doh!:) Kids love Play-doh. Parents love the idea of fun, quiet, creative play…but, deep down, most of us hate the mess it makes and detest the fact that the stuff dries out after just a few months no matter how tightly you put on the lid! A lot of my friends only let their kids use Play-doh outside so they don’t have to worry about cleaning up those gazallion little rice-sized pieces that get dropped on the floor. I’m not that hard-core, ...
Our Fastest Way to Spread Compost
I think I can finally move again without feeling pain in every inch of my back and arms. Remember in my Great Wheelbarrow Showdown post how I mentioned that my husband and I spread six yards of compost on our front and backyard? Did I mention that I was the one who shoveled absolutely every bit of compost into the Wheelbarrow and Yard Cart? Yep, me and my big buff muscles. Ouch! Anyway, in my Great Wheelbarrow Showdown post, my test results for the best actual wheelbarrow had the Lifetime Wheelbarrow beating out the Lifetime Yard Cart and a traditional wheelbarrow. The Lifetime Yard Cart could hold twice as much dirt as the Lifetime Wheelbarrow and it pushed fairly easy considering the amount of weight in it. However, it failed the wheelbarrow tipping test because once you dump the load, you cant control how much you dump. ...
Sustainable Gardening
Ecological gardening is on the rise. More gardeners are growing vegetables, fruits and herbs organically. People are trying to use less harmful pesticides on their lawns, and theres an increasing awareness of the role invasive plants, water conservation, and energy consumption play in the garden and our environment. Sustainable gardening practices are making it easier for home gardeners to grow edibles, trees, shrubs, flowers and lawns effectively while reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. While there are many new products on the market to help gardeners grow plants more ecologically, many of the sustainable gardening practices are about following common sense. Here are some practices to try in your garden: Grow a Diversity of PlantsGrowing a wide variety of plants in your yard will create a more balanced...
