A Size for Everyone -- Go Green with New 50-Gallon Composter

50-gallon composter.jpgFor this post, I want to write about our new Lifetime 50-Gallon Composter. Loyal blog readers (if there are any of them out there) know that Lifetime offers a variety of composters. These composters make being green easy, help provide beautiful gardens, and potentially save the planet. Yep, composters are pretty much modern day superheroes. Well, maybe that is a little extreme, but they are pretty cool.

Lifetime has been in the composter manufacturing business for about five years now. I remember when my boss came to me and said he wanted to develop a composter for mass market retail. I have to admit, I thought his brain might have started to compost. I didn't think mass market retail was ready for compost bins. After all, they were only for people who lived completely off the land in rural USA, right?  Boy was I wrong... and my boss hasn't let me forget it. Lifetime has brought composting to the masses in every area with our easy to use, inexpensive to own, composters.

After listening to our customers, we brought two new composters to the market this season. The first one, the Lifetime Dual Composter, I blogged about a few weeks ago. The Dual Composter is for customers who requested a larger composter where they could do two batches of compost at once. The second composter also comes from customer requests - the Lifetime 50-Gallon Composter  which is designed for customers who don't need as much compost. The 50-gallon model takes up less room in the yard than our 65, 80, and dual bin versions, but can produce an impressive 50 gallons of compost in just four to six weeks.

With the new Lifetime 50-Gallon Composter, Lifetime has a size of composter for everyone to go green.  If this new size sounds like what you need, you can find it in store at your nearest Sam's Club for $89.99 or online in the Lifetime Store.

I like the Lifetime 50 Gallon Compost Tumbler. But I am really having a hard time deciding which size of compost bin I need. I have to do some figuring out because right now we have a mulching mower with no grass catcher and we are thinking of a new mower with a grass catcher and I have never mulched the grass clippings.

Hello.

Great questions. Here are some things to think about. When composting you need to keep the brown vs. green ratios in-check. Depending on the size of your lawn you may catch too much grass (green material) to put into the composter. Even with a larger composter this could happen. What I do is catch some of my grass for the composter, and then remove the bag on the lawnmower and mulch the rest of the grass. This way, I have some grass for my composter, but not so much that I can't use it and mulching the grass is healthy for your lawn.

A smaller composter will compost quicker (less material to compost), but yield less finished compost.

Good luck. Let us know what you decide.

We just finished putting together the 50 gallon composter. Sadly, there was no How-To DVD in the box, as stated on the front of the box. Is there anyway we can watch it through the Lifetime website? Can't wait to get started.

Yep, you sure can watch the video online. Go to YouTube and search Lifetime Products. The How To video is in the list.

Waterproof Tables at Swim School
My son started taking swimming lessons a few weeks ago at a new swim school that just opened by our house. I must say, for a 5-year-old he does really well! He's known how to kind of swim for several years, but we're hoping this new class will help perfect his stroke so he is proficient and completely independent for this summer's swim season. The place where he takes swimming lessons has a pretty thorough system of checks and balances to ensure each child completes the necessary skills in each level. They have an instructor that monitors the swim teacher and student during the lesson and evaluates if the skill is mastered. After the skill is mastered, it is recorded in a logbook and marked off on the child's wristband. I was happy to see when I walked in the first day that they use a Lifetime 4-foot adjustable height table...
Continuous Kayak Innovation with the New Lifetime Monterey
Our water sports team is constantly trying to improve our current lineup, as well as design new innovative and stylish kayaks. We looked at our popular Daylite and Lotus models carefully, put our heads together, and out popped the LifetimeMonterey! The Lifetime Monterey Kayak is the newest addition to our kayak family, but it still has many of the great qualities of its cousins, the Daylite and the Lotus. The new Monterey is 8 in length and 29.5 wide. We have added enhanced tracking channels to the bottom of the kayak which will help keep the kayak from turning side-to-side with each paddle stroke. It will also allow the paddler to go a greater distance with less effort - who doesnt want that?!As with all Lifetime kayaks, the Monterey is extremely stable and great for everyone from kids to adults. This new kayak also has ou...
Fishing Kayaks for Father's Day
Father's Day is almost here. If youre like me, you are always rushing around trying to figure out what to do for Dad at the last minute. For years I always based my Fathers Day gifts on two things, fish and sports. My dad either gets the latest Jets (dont hold it against him) football team sweatshirt or a nice wooden fish decoration to hang on the wall. Since these were always my dads favorite activities, this always seemed like the best route, until he ran out of wall space for all those wooden fish decorations. Im sure Im not the only one at there who has a dad that loves fishing. I mean loves it. You know, the dad who gets up at 4am so he can get out on the water . The dad who has more fishing rods than pairs of pants. Instead of adding to the shiny collections of rods, or in my case, fish that hang on the wall, why not g...
