Family Fun with the Kayaks!
I had a family reunion a couple weeks ago. This is not your typical family reunion with cousins youve never met, let alone seen, before. My extended family is very close-knit and (I hope its safe to say) we all look forward to the DFR (aka Dixon Family Reunion) every year, truly. My dad and his two siblings take turns planning it each year. This year was my Uncle Brents turn, so we went to Pineview Dam near Huntsville, Utah. I have about 20 cousins in the age range of 28-35. They all have spouses and, on average, 4 kids each; so our family is pushing close to 60 people. The kids range from brand new babies to 16 years old. As you know, Lifetime acquired the kayak company, Dragonfly Innovation, back in February. I bought two of the blueCalypso kayaks and decided Id take them up to the lake and see what kind of reaction they g...
Paddling Vacations
These days, taking a family on a vacation is no easy feat. Not financially and not logistically. It requires money, planning, and time! But it is totally worth it! Times are changing and so are vacation options. You dont need to go to Disney Land to have a great family experience. Why not plan a vacation around kayaking? There are so many great paddling destinations in the United States it would take forever to list them all. The best part about a kayaking vacation is that you often get to experience a new place or situation that so many others dont get to! Kayaking out to a secret cove, or down a calm moving river in a desolate canyon are all great ways to bond with your friends and family, get exercise and have a fa...
Recreational Kayaking is Fun and Safe For the Family
Recreational kayaking is a fun and safe way for the whole family to enjoy the outdoors. Many people are a little apprehensive when they hear the word "kayaking." They imagine people dropping off of 20 foot waterfalls and paddling through big wavy rapids. But that isnt the only way to kayak. In fact, the largest segment of kayaking is within the recreational sector. What is recreational kayaking? Recreational kayaking refers to paddling on flat water lakes, bays, slow-moving calm river ways, and calm oceans. No rapids involved! Flat-water paddling is a safe way to enjoy the water. Another misconception about kayaking is the Eskimo roll, which is another aspect of kayaking that only applies to whitewater or sea kayaking. Recreational kayaks are not meant to roll and they are not designed to keep you inside if you should flip y...
