Pumpkin Basketball and Gourd Bowling
This past weekend we headed to a local pumpkin patch for our squadrons annual Fall Festival. It was an easy and fun way to celebrate autumn and Halloween without having to attend yet another costume party! As soon as we got there, my daughter was immediately drawn to the Corn Box...a metal bin filled with corn instead of sand and loaded with buckets, shovels, and trucks. However, the Corn Box soon took a back seat as soon as she heard the sputtering sound of tractors and noticed there were hayrides and little cart rides. My son enjoyed winding through the hay maze and pumping the old-fashioned water pumps for the plastic duck races. And, naturally, they both took advantage of the free face painting. National Basketball Day
Today is unofficially National Basketball Day. It was on November 6, 1861 that James Naismith was born. Thirty years later, Naismith was a young physical education teacher at a YMCA in Massachusetts with bored students who needed an indoor athletic distraction during the winter. Naismith decided to nail two peach baskets to the balcony at both ends of a gymnasium. He divided his students into teams and they attempted to toss a ball into the basketsthe game of basketball was born. According to notes kept by Naismith about the first "Basket Ball" game, the game was played with nine players on each team using a soccer ball. Today, even though the rules and equipment have changed slightly, basketball is played by more than 300 million people worldwide, making it one of the most popular team sports. James Naismith may have inven...
Lifetime's New 65-Gallon Composter
Who loves composting? We do! Remember how we introduced the Lifetime 80-Gallon Composter last spring? Well, with its success we have designed a smaller version and are excited to announcethe Lifetime 65-Gallon Composter! We have kept all the same great features but just made it a little smaller. The Lifetime 65-Gallon Composter is constructed of UV-protected high-density polyethylene (HDPE) panels and is black with a galvanized steel base. Its extra large, removable lid makes it easy to load lawn and garden trimmings and organic waste. The lid latches shut to help keep rodents out and compost in. The ingenious tumbler design turns on an axis to allow for easy and balanced rotation. The aerated internal bar mixes compost and allows for air flow. Even if youve never composted before, what better time than now to start?! Plus,...
