Celebrating Earth Day

Earth Day is one of those things I learned about in elementary school. I remember running home to tell my mom that each drop of water we waste actually becomes a gallon of wasted water for the earth! Like my mom reacted at the time, I now don't think that's true. My first grade brain must have exaggerated the concept. For this year's Earth Day, I decided to volunteer at the local nature center's event, helping with a craft table for children making magazine bead necklaces. Lots of fun! Volunteers before me had made thousands of beads and even sorted them by color. Looking around, I spotted a couple Lifetime tables. I asked one of the vendors a little about her booth then let her know I work for the company who made her table. She immediatley beamed "I love this table!" and went on to say that she bought it for a certain purpouse but uses it for everything. Needless to say, my heart swelled a little with pride.

At Lifetime, I like to say that we're a little greener than you think. I know almost all of our engineers personally, and know that they work hard to create products that are built to last and won't end up in landfills. Lifetime's High Density Plastic (HDPE) products are also 100% recycleable. At Lifetime, we also re-grind the excess plastic and defunct plastic parts, and use the regrind in other plastic products. Many of our black plastic products, including the Lifetime wheelbarrow tub are made from 100% recycled material. Most recently, Lifetime always recycles the steel we use, and we have recently been trying various ways to recycle cardboard used in our factory too. Lifetime also has a strict policy to never let liquid from machines out of the facility, where they seep into the drainage system.

Earth Day is all about appreciating the natural resources we have and finding ways to protect them. It's a good remider for us all, companies and families, to try a few small things every day that might make a big difference.

Inground basketball
Inground basketball hoops are cemented into the ground, rather than set on a portable base. Inground basketball systems provide rigidity and firmness, and generally take up less space than portable basketball systems. Cement is required for the installation of an inground basketball system (allow that to set fully for 72 hours after installation before play), but once set up, a cemented inground basketball goal can provide years upon years of entertainment and enjoyment for almost all ages. Inground basketball systems are available with free shipping from BuyLifetime.com.
Three Dreaded Words... Back To School
I picked up my sons registration packet for kindergarten yesterday. (Still cant believe my baby is going to kindergarten. Sniff, sniff. But, thats a story for another day!) Geez, how many forms can they make us fill out? So overwhelming and seemingly redundant in many ways. Amongst the huge stack of papers, guidelines, and forms was the obligatory school supply list. Wow, so much for just needing to buy a backpack, pencils, and notebook anymore, huh? The kindergarten supply list has nearly 20 items on it! Crazy! Personally, I was one of those nerdy kids that always got fired up about back to school time because, being the organizer that I am, I couldnt wait to pick out all of my new school supplies, especially my new Trapper Keeper! Ironically though, my husband came home from the store just the other day and said he saw the...
Utah's Historic Windy Day
Wow, what a week we just had. Lifetime is headquartered in Clearfield Utah. Clearfield is in North Davis County. Davis County, asyou may have heard on the national news, was the sight of some historically strong winds on Thursday, December 1. The mountains we have here typically shield us from things like tornadoes, but when the jet stream is just right, wind is forced up the Wasatch mountains and slams down on us. This only happens every 10 to 15 years. Early Thursday morning we woke up at my house to the fence missing, the trampoline missing, and flying debris. The winds were so strong that to go outside was dangerous as debris of all shapes and sizes was flying around. The National Weather Service said the winds reached up to 100 MPH. These are the same wind speeds you find in a category 2 hurricane. By the time it calmed...
