January is National Puzzle Month

I was just reading the latest issue of Better Homes & Gardens magazine and noticed that January is National Puzzle Month.  Who knew?  For the life of me, I can't find any information regarding who actually declared this celebration or started it, but I'll go along with it.  (If you know the background, leave us a comment and please share!)

Personally, I LOVE jigsaw puzzles.  In fact, my husband and I put one together every year as part of our Christmas traditions.  This year was no different.  I set up my Lifetime card table and Lifetime folding chairs in our living room and we started our masterpiece.  This was my first year using our new Lifetime card table for our annual puzzle tradition and it worked great.  The Lifetime card table is extra big (37" compared to most card tables that are 33" or 34") which means there was ample assembly space, even with all of the 1000 pieces scattered around.  I also liked how easily the puzzle pieces slid around on the Lifetime plastic tabletop compared to our old vinyl tabletop where the pieces sometimes seemed to stick a bit.

Even though I only put a puzzle together once a year, for some reason I still buy a new puzzle every year.  (Not sure why, it's not like I'll remember how all the pieces go together!) Sometimes I pick a puzzle based on its difficulty - I think the hardest one I've ever done was a two-sided puzzle.  Other times, I pick a puzzle based on the picture itself - my favorite puzzle was of a pilot in his flight suit showing his young son his airplane.  Since my husband is an Air Force fighter pilot, we actually framed that puzzle for my son's room. (You can buy puzzle glue at your local craft store.  It's an easy process, just follow the directions on the bottle.)

The past two years, however, I purchased an "I Spy" puzzle so my son could participate in the fun.  After we assembled the puzzle, the box had clues for hidden pictures to find in the puzzle.  After about three days, we finished our puzzle this year and found all of the hidden pictures after some hard searching.  However, there was one thing we never did find…the missing piece of our puzzle!  It was a brand new puzzle and somehow we were missing an edge piece!  Weird. Good thing we didn't plan on framing this one.

So anyway, if you're looking for something to do these cold winter days, pull out your folding table and chairs and celebrate National Puzzle Month with your family.

Favorite Room In My House
We moved to a new house two years ago and I love it! Out of the entire house, guess which room my favorite? Ok, trick question…it’s not even really a room. It’s the closet in our office! It’s a large walk-in closet with two doors and a window. I use one side for storage of big things like suitcases, our baby pack-n-play, etc. The other side is my own little niche….my craft closet. Most of the crafts I do are just small paper type crafts (handmade cards, invitations, etc.) so I don’t need a lot of room or fancy supplies. Most people laugh at me and ask why I don’t just use the entire office as my craft room. Well, as I’ve mentioned before, I love to be organized so it’s crucial to my sanity that I don’t leave projects-in-process just laying around where I can see all of the clutter. So, turning the closet into my craft close...
Backstage at Lifetime's Semi-Annual Meeting
Peering around the curtains, I began scanning the auditorium. It was quickly filling with around 800-900 Lifetime employees (judging by the seat capacity of 1000). Just a few more minutes until starting time... I told myself. Before I knew it, I felt the stage crew manager tapping my shoulder. Time to start he said. I looked at my laptop and queued up our opening video... here we go Welcome backstage to a behind the scenes look at Lifetimes Profit Sharing meeting 2011. If you read this blog 6 months ago, you know that our Profit Sharing meetingis a semi-annual tradition at Lifetime. This January marks the 44th time weve gotten together to share company updates, new products, and more often than not, a lovely bonus check for every employee in proportion to our profitability over the past 6 months! Pretty sweet employee perk, ...
The Wonderful World of Sit-Inside Kayaks!
This kayak season we are stepping up our game! Exciting right? Most people have seen our many sit-on-top and fishing models, but this year we have gone in a whole new direction! I would like to introduce our newest member of the kayak family, the Lifetime Payette 116! This is our first sit-inside kayak design and it is sure to knock your water socks off! It comes in at 98 and is has the perfect mix of stability and speed. The sleek design makes it a bit faster than other kayaks that are similar in length without compromising the stability you are accustom to in a Lifetime Kayak! Think best of both worlds: speed of a longer kayak, stability of a shorter kayak. The built -n seat and seat back make it comfortable while the molded-in carry handles make for easy transport. Need to take some snacks with you on your paddle? The Paye...
