Bill Cosby had it right. Yes, many of us dads are the “fun ones,” the “jokesters,” and the “dress up dolls.” There are fathers all over the world “who get things they can’t use and . . . don’t want.” With Father’s Day coming up I wanted to offer some suggestions for things that Dad actually wants: Want – Deck Box. Give dad a Lifetime Deck Box so he has somewhere to quickly put away all of the kid’s toys left on the lawn. Keep them safe so he doesn't hit them with the lawn mower anymore. So, really . . . it’s a gift that keeps giving.  Don’t Want – Another light-up, pink, paisley, or superhero tie. It’s just another burp rag for the baby to spit up on. Want – New shed to store all the yard tools in. You know ... More

Wow! Who would have thought our little homemade ‘How to Build our Shed’ video would have gotten so much attention. This little video one of our employees and her husband posted of building their shed at home a few years ago has more than 111,400 views. Our customers have told us how much they appreciate having videos along with the instructions to help guide them through their shed assembly. I am happy to announce we’ve provided even more shed assembly help videos. We have been working hard on producing videos that are specific to the various shed models we produce. We have taken the more difficult parts of our instruction manuals, as rated by our customers, and turned them into step-by-step videos. Customers can view these on their smart phones while out back building their shed, or view them in advance s... More

At dinner with some friends this weekend we got talking about my job at Lifetime. One of my friends said, “Lifetime makes a lot of cool stuff.” There is a reason I have started my seventh year here at the company… because I agree.  We do make a lot of cool stuff. Working in the Lawn & Garden category these past six years, I have seen a lot of new products. But the core of the category has always been our sheds. In fact, it was an idea to create a shed that launched the category, and thus, my job! One of the neatest innovations in our family of sheds, in my opinion, has been our 10x8 and 15x8 line. These sheds have proven to be very popular. One of the great things about them is the way they allow you to organize your stuff. With the entry on the long side, you can compartmentalize between right a... More

I’m excited to talk about our new shed that we have been busy working on over the past few months. We have designed a new size with some fresh new features. Through customer research, we learned that you, our awesome consumers, like the width of our 8-foot wide family of sheds, but some of you just don't have the space for a deep shed like our 8x10 or 8x12.5. This new shed is 8 feet wide and 6 feet deep! The shed also has a new look with vertical siding and windows in the doors. It has corner trim to make the colors pop and look good in your yard. We’ve also added a skylight that runs the full depth of the shed to allow natural light in so you can more easily see your stuff. Also, this new shed comes with shelving to help you organize your bug spray, weed killer, and whatever else you want to store. With our... More

It’s that time of year again for a lot of us.  Time to store that kayak away for the cold cold winter.  We are often asked about how to store a kayak while it is not being used, especially during the chilly winter months.  So today, I am here to offer up some winter kayak advice! First piece of advice, kayaks are not for sledding!  They go fast but they don’t like the cold, so keep them off of the snow!  Ok, now for the real tips.  As always, make sure you wash your kayak after use.  This is especially important when you will be putting it into storage for several months.  Mild dish soap and water works just fine, no need for fancy cleaners.  Make sure you remove sand and dirt, even from those little crevices. And, just think about how nice it will be to pull this baby... More

Over the years, we’ve told you about how our blow-molded products are made, and how our metals are powder-coated to protect them, but how does the whole process work, anyway?  I certainly didn't know before I started working for Lifetime.  But, here at the Freeport Center, all your products begin from scratch.  When I was first hired, I had the chance to tour the entire facility. And it was probably one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.  No kidding.  Did you know that in our blow-molding facility, our High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic starts out as beads that are pumped from the trains to the building silos?  The beads are melted and poured into the blow-molding forms. When the formed part comes out, Lifetime employees remove excess plastic and prepare them for a... More

This giveaway has ended. You asked for it so we listened!  In December when we asked giveaway entrants to tell us what they would buy if they won a gift certificate to the Lifetime Store, one of the most popular answers was a Lifetime Shed.  So, this month, one lucky winner will win a Lifetime 7'x7' Storage Shed!  We figured it's the perfect time to give away a shed since some of you probably made a resolution to get more organized this year, others are still trying to figure out where to store all their holiday decorations, and a few more of you might be starting your spring cleaning already. This 7'x7' shed retails for $929 in the Lifetime Store online and is one of our newer and most popular sizes.  (Whoa!  Can you say HUGE product giveaway?)  In addition to its convenient size, o... Wow, what a week we just had. Lifetime is headquartered in Clearfield Utah. Clearfield is in North Davis County. Davis County, as you may have heard on the national news, was the sight of some historically strong winds on Thursday, December 1. The mountains we have here typically shield us from things like tornadoes, but when the jet stream is just right, wind is forced up the Wasatch mountains and slams down on us. This only happens every 10 to 15 years. Early Thursday morning we woke up at my house to the fence missing, the trampoline missing, and flying debris. The winds were so strong that to go outside was dangerous as debris of all shapes and sizes was flying around. The National Weather Service said the winds reached up to 100 MPH. These are the same wind speeds you find in a category 2 hurricane. By the time it ... More

Thanks to everyone who entered this month's giveaway to try and win the Lifetime 7'x7' Shed for their Dad for Father's Day.  We received some very touching stories about how much your Dads mean to you and why you wanted to win this shed for Dad.   But, in the end, the winner picked by random.org was Sonya R. of Knoxville, TX.  Congrats, Sonya.  We hope your husband enjoys this year's Father's Day present for years to come! We also heard some great feedback about which features you liked best about this relatively-new Lifetime 7'x7' Shed.  By far (and not surprisingly), the feature most of you liked the best was the full-length roof skylight.  That's a pretty awesome addition to a shed!  Other popular answers were the shatterproof windows that open and the customizable shelving. I... More

This giveaway has ended.  Wondering what to get dear old Dad for Father's Day?  (Yes, in case you haven't glanced at a calendar recently, Father's Day is just 11 days away… June 19.)  Last year, I wrote a blog post with some unique Lifetime product ideas to buy for Dad. (Which, I might add, is still a very useful list to read for ideas.)  But, this year, I figured rather than just giving you ideas for Dad, why not actually give you a gift for Dad?  And, if we're going to give away a gift Dad's are sure to love, we might as well make it one of our most popular items on every Dad's list…a shed! That's right, this month, one lucky winner will win a Lifetime 7'x7' shed to give to Dad.  Umm, can you say ultimate Dad's Day Gift?!  Seriously, what Dad doesn't dream of having hi... More

Free Picnic Table Rides?!
This picture just made me laugh and it begged to be blogged about for an explanation. When you live in the country, fun often comes in strange and crazy forms. This summer, my city-raised son experienced yet another new adventure at Mammy and Papas house in the countrypicnic table rides! (Yes, you read that rightnot pony rides, but picnic table rides.) Ok, probably not the most exciting thing in the world or his most memorable experience, but it was different to say the least. Remember last post I was talking about how easy it is to move my parents Lifetime 4-person picnic table compared to the wooden A-frame picnic table we had when I was a kid? My parents did in fact get rid of the small wooden A-frame table and now use their Lifetime 4-person picnic table for daily use by the pond. But, what I didnt mention is that they a...
Building Our Lifetime Shed - Step 1
Okey-dokey. So, our Lifetimeshed arrived and we read through the assembling directions. Now that we had the general idea of what we were about to undertake, we were ready to start building our shed! Well, sort of. Before we could actually start assembling our Lifetime shed, we had to prepare the shed site. As you may recall, we plan to put our 8x5 Lifetime shed right up against our back fence. But, our yard has a pretty significant slope and we can only dig about 6 before we hit solid rockpractically boulders in some spots! And, lucky us, we also had a tree stump and roots we had to take into consideration. Fun times. So, our first step was to level the ground to be flush with the tree stump by removing weeds, rocks, mulch, adding dirt, etc. Ground ready? Check. The Lifetime shed directions recommend building the shed on a...
Small Space Entertaining
Living in a small space doesnt mean you cant entertain family and friends comfortably. With a bit of thought and preparation, you can host enjoyable gatherings no matter the size of your house or apartment. In a small space a simple approach is best, so take note of these 8 tips to get you up and running in no time. Un-clutter: Move furniture and large plants to the sides of your rooms to create more floor space. Keep it simple by removing any clutter, knick-knacks, etc. to give a more open feel. Use as much natural light as possible. Open up: If you have outdoor space like a terrace, patio, deck or small backyard, use it. Leave your patio door open and set-up a seating group or table and chairs to increase space. Fill it up: If your place will hold 10 people, invite 16-18. It is unusual for every invited guest to be able ...
