Yesterday was a good day... I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, and set out to assemble a shed with Lifetime’s Prototype Shop Specialists (who I call Product Assembly Wizards) in the Little America Hotel grand ballroom. After a few hours of drilling, tightening bolts, and hauling through the kitchen—oddly enough, the best path to the loading dock — we had our own little corner with a Lifetime shed, composter, wheelbarrow, and Personal Table for a drawing to win the products. You may wonder why a person would be so excited to do all this work. Well, besides the fact that I’m generally overly excited about most things I get to do, I was thrilled to see six of our engineers and Lifetime Products as a company honored at the 2011 Utah Genius awards program!   Including its engineers... Put on your party hat, pull out the noisemakers, and get ready to celebrate - Lifetime Products is turning 25!  That's right, in March of 1986, Lifetime Products Inc. was founded in Clearfield, Utah with just 25 employees and one product category.  Today, we have more than 1,500 employees worldwide and more than 200 products sold in 58 countries!  In addition to commemorating our corporate anniversary, we're also celebrating that it's been 25 years since Lifetime invented the first residential basketball hoop that could be adjusted in just seconds. Yes, you read right… we invented the very first one. It was called the Quick Adjust, and could be adjusted using a broom handle. Pretty cool, huh? This revolutionary and convenient invention has truly transformed the game of basketball by... More

On occasion, I have been asked whether I prefer a straight or an angled pole when selecting a portable basketball system. At first glance, an angled pole may appear to have performance or safety advantages, but when looked at from an engineer’s perspective, some deeper insights can be gained. I sat down with one of Lifetime’s head engineers to discuss why Lifetime chooses to use straight basketball poles on our systems. Ed has been an engineer at Lifetime Products since 1993 and has played a large role in developing our basketball systems over the years. Here are some of his insights on angled vs. straight basketball systems. Are basketball systems with an angled pole less likely to tip over than ones with a vertical pole? The stability of a portable system has to do with the weight of the backboard and the we... More

Do you need to expand your patio storage, but have limited space available? Store your extra things outside in a new Lifetime 80-Gallon Storage Box! We introduced the Lifetime 130-Gallon Storage Box last June and with the great response, we’ve created a smaller version of this handy product for those not-so-big backyards or those individuals who have less space. Created to store anything from backyard toys to garden tools and hoses, its UV-protected construction, and weather and water resistant seal helps keeps the interior dry. The spring-hinge lid opens greater than 90 de... More

A few weeks ago I wrote a post with some basic questions to ask yourself before buying a folding table.  One of the questions was "Are planning on using your table inside, outside or both?" Obviously, choosing a weather-resistant table is important to consider if you'll be using your table outside.  So,  today I want to tell you a little bit more about what to look for if weather-resistance is a necessary feature for you.  Let's face it though, folding tables are most often used for occasions when extra seating or a temporary work surface is necessary… which usually means using one is not really "planned".  So, it's important to look at a table's protection against weathering and water damage no matter what your original intended purchase reason. Look for protection on any wood surfaces.&... More

Folding Table Tips
In the months since weve started this blog, I've received several questions regarding Lifetime's fold-in-half tables... interestingly enough, most people ask the basic question: How do you to unfold them? Esther from Niceville, FL wrote in yesterday: "I just bought your 5 ft fold-in-half table. Its great, but I do not know how to open it up and there wasn't any directions. Sorry, I am 69 years old and not mechanically minded and am afraid that I might do something to mess it up..." How do you unfold it?? The first few times Ive seen this question, I admit, I thought it wouldnt be all that hard. But then I walked down to our showroom and tried to open a new table myself... it took a little more elbow grease thought! I looked into why this is, and it turns out our engineers developed these tables to stay safely closed when yo...
Like Legwarmers and Mariah Carey, Recession Gardens Are Making A Comeback
I first learned about victory gardens at a young age, thanks to the stories I read about Molly McIntire, a fictional character who grew up during World War II. Molly and her family grew their own vegetables since crops grown by farmers were needed for the American troops. Well, once the war ended, victory gardens took a back seat to the fluorescent lights of the grocery superstore. With our nations current financial situation though, Im not surprised to see victory gardensor recession gardens, as theyre known these daysmaking a comeback.I recently read that an estimated 43 million American households will be planting their own recession gardens this year. Forty-three million! It just goes to show that lots of people across the nation are catching on to this trendand with savings of up to $5,000 on groceries a year, no wonder ...
Dear Family – a Letter from Dad
Bill Cosby had it right. Yes, many of us dads are the fun ones, the jokesters, and the dress up dolls. There are fathers all over the world who get things they cant use and . . . dont want. With Fathers Day coming up I wanted to offer some suggestions for things that Dad actually wants: Want Deck Box. Give dad a Lifetime Deck Box so he has somewhere to quickly put away all of the kids toys left on the lawn. Keep them safe so he doesn't hit them with the lawn mower anymore. So, really . . . its a gift that keeps giving. Dont Want Another light-up, pink, paisley, or superhero tie. Its just another burp rag for the baby to spit up on. Want New shed to store all the yard tools in.You know you all keep telling us to put the tools away.Dont Want Cute stuffed animal driver cover to hang on his golf bag. In case you havent forg...
