Who loves composting? We do! Remember how we introduced the Lifetime 80-Gallon Composter last spring? Well, with its success we have designed a smaller version and are excited to announce—the Lifetime 65-Gallon Composter! We have kept all the same great features but just made it a little smaller. The Lifetime 65-Gallon Composter is constructed of UV-protected high-density polyethylene (HDPE) panels and is black with a galvanized steel base. Its extra large, removable lid makes it easy to load lawn and garden trimmings and organic waste. The lid latches shut to help keep rodents out and compost in. The ingenious tumbler design turns on an axis to allow for easy and balanced rotation. The aerated internal bar mixes compost and allows for air flow. Even if you’ve never composted before, what better time than now to... More

At Lifetime, we're always looking for ways to improve our website to make it easier for you to use.  Most recently, we overhauled how customers access our assembly instructions in the Customer Care section of Lifetime.com.  Why is this a big deal?  Well, Lifetime makes a lot of products, and we're continually finding ways to improve upon them to make them easier to assemble, less expensive, and for various other reasons. When these improvements are made, we have to publish a new version of the assembly instructions for that product. On the surface, that's not a big deal because the instructions get printed and packaged inside the box with the rest of the parts. But what happens when a customer loses the instructions? In the past, we've only shown one version of the assembly instructions on our website -- which... More

Happy Birthday BSA! The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated and chartered by the United States Congress on February 8, 1910. That means this week, they are 101 years old! Last year, they reached a large milestone as they turned 100! In the summer of 2010, Lifetime received a phone call from a 14-year-old Scout named Mason. He was calling on behalf of the Spectrum program at the local Burton Elementary School in Layton, Utah (very close to Lifetime’s headquarters). Spectrum is a program designed to provide activities for children who are academically gifted. Among their activities, they put on a play once a year, which we hear is a great performance. But he wasn't calling to talk just about the program; he was calling because the local Spectrum program had a problem that was putting their annual play in jeopardy. He... More

This giveaway has ended.  Valentine's Day is next Monday and lovebirds everywhere are scrambling to find just the right gift.  I'll be the first to admit that most people probably don't think about buying Lifetime products for Valentine's Day.  After all, we don't make traditional Valentine gifts like sparkly diamond jewelry, yummy melt-in-your-mouth chocolates, or beautiful long-stemmed roses.  And, we only have two or three products that are even red or pink in color.  But, if you think outside the heart-shaped box just a bit, we do have an ideal Valentine gift that's perfect for romantic outdoor enthusiasts… a kayak built for two (actually three)!  Think about it. What better way to bond with your Valentine than to give a gift that the two of you can enjoy together.  Sure, de... More

As Katie mentioned in the last post, our semi-annual company meeting was a success! By the way, I want to put this disclaimer out there: I was asked to write a blog post on my experience at the Semi-Annual meeting, so I did not volunteer to write this post. So here it goes: I’m sitting backstage feeling a little anxious for the big event. It’s Profit Sharing! It happens twice a year and Katie and I have worked hard getting presentations, videos, and everything else organized for the meeting. As I watch Katie finalize a few things on the final presentation, my adrenaline starts going. The backstage “men in black”, as I call them, give us the queue. Time to begin! The opening video rolls, then Richard (our President) runs out and begins his presentation. He then announces the founder’s wife, Kath... More

We Went Wassailing...Sort Of
It's hard to believe that Christmas is almost here. We don't really have any big pre-holiday traditions of our own, but we do try to partake in some of the local festivities wherever we live. To help get us in the holiday spirit this year, we attended the annual Wassailfest one evening in a nearby town. You're probably thinking, "what in the world is a Wassailfest?" Don't worry, so were we! I've heardof the Christmas carol "Here We Come A Wassailing" but didn't really know much more.Once I read the lyrics and did a little more reading, everything made more sense!Wassail is a traditional European beverage, popular at the holidays. (It tastes kind of like hot apple cider.) Apparently, wassailing dates back to the middle ages as an earlyform of holiday charitable giving.Peasants would go caroling to each house carrying cups. Cold Weather Gardening
Gardening in Vermont, I know about cold weather. The growing season is short and intense. I dont dare go away in May or early June, because if I dont get everything planted, I may miss the opportunity to get annual plants in the ground soon enough so they produce before a fall frost. Then theres September and October when frost can come at any time. Yes, its a crazy place to garden, but Ive learned some great tips over the years to make the gardening easier and more productive. Here are some of my best tips: Build the Soil- With the short growing season and cool temperatures, the soil needs to be in tiptop shape to produce the best annual flowers and vegetables. I like to add a 1- to 2-inch thick deep layer of compost on my beds every spring and work it in. Its cheapest to buy the compost in bulk from a garden center or have...
