Storage

Bill Cosby had it right. Yes, many of us dads are the “fun ones,” the “jokesters,” and the “dress up dolls.” There are fathers all over the world “who get things they can’t use and . . . don’t want.” With Father’s Day coming up I wanted to offer some suggestions for things that Dad actually wants: Want – Deck Box. Give dad a Lifetime Deck Box so he has somewhere to quickly put away all of the kid’s toys left on the lawn. Keep them safe so he doesn't hit them with the lawn mower anymore. So, really . . . it’s a gift that keeps giving.  Don’t Want – Another light-up, pink, paisley, or superhero tie. It’s just another burp rag for the baby to spit up on. Want – New shed to store all the yard tools in. You know ... More

Wow! Who would have thought our little homemade ‘How to Build our Shed’ video would have gotten so much attention. This little video one of our employees and her husband posted of building their shed at home a few years ago has more than 111,400 views. Our customers have told us how much they appreciate having videos along with the instructions to help guide them through their shed assembly. I am happy to announce we’ve provided even more shed assembly help videos. We have been working hard on producing videos that are specific to the various shed models we produce. We have taken the more difficult parts of our instruction manuals, as rated by our customers, and turned them into step-by-step videos. Customers can view these on their smart phones while out back building their shed, or view them in advance s... More

At dinner with some friends this weekend we got talking about my job at Lifetime. One of my friends said, “Lifetime makes a lot of cool stuff.” There is a reason I have started my seventh year here at the company… because I agree.  We do make a lot of cool stuff. Working in the Lawn & Garden category these past six years, I have seen a lot of new products. But the core of the category has always been our sheds. In fact, it was an idea to create a shed that launched the category, and thus, my job! One of the neatest innovations in our family of sheds, in my opinion, has been our 10x8 and 15x8 line. These sheds have proven to be very popular. One of the great things about them is the way they allow you to organize your stuff. With the entry on the long side, you can compartmentalize between right a... More

I’m excited to talk about our new shed that we have been busy working on over the past few months. We have designed a new size with some fresh new features. Through customer research, we learned that you, our awesome consumers, like the width of our 8-foot wide family of sheds, but some of you just don't have the space for a deep shed like our 8x10 or 8x12.5. This new shed is 8 feet wide and 6 feet deep! The shed also has a new look with vertical siding and windows in the doors. It has corner trim to make the colors pop and look good in your yard. We’ve also added a skylight that runs the full depth of the shed to allow natural light in so you can more easily see your stuff. Also, this new shed comes with shelving to help you organize your bug spray, weed killer, and whatever else you want to store. With our... More

It’s that time of year again for a lot of us.  Time to store that kayak away for the cold cold winter.  We are often asked about how to store a kayak while it is not being used, especially during the chilly winter months.  So today, I am here to offer up some winter kayak advice! First piece of advice, kayaks are not for sledding!  They go fast but they don’t like the cold, so keep them off of the snow!  Ok, now for the real tips.  As always, make sure you wash your kayak after use.  This is especially important when you will be putting it into storage for several months.  Mild dish soap and water works just fine, no need for fancy cleaners.  Make sure you remove sand and dirt, even from those little crevices. And, just think about how nice it will be to pull this baby... More

Over the years, we’ve told you about how our blow-molded products are made, and how our metals are powder-coated to protect them, but how does the whole process work, anyway?  I certainly didn't know before I started working for Lifetime.  But, here at the Freeport Center, all your products begin from scratch.  When I was first hired, I had the chance to tour the entire facility. And it was probably one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.  No kidding.  Did you know that in our blow-molding facility, our High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic starts out as beads that are pumped from the trains to the building silos?  The beads are melted and poured into the blow-molding forms. When the formed part comes out, Lifetime employees remove excess plastic and prepare them for a... More

We love getting feedback from our customers. We have had all kinds of interesting topics sent in to us. This one was no exception. Although we can’t officially promote use of our products for anything other than their intended use, I thought this one was pretty clever. Stan wrote in telling us how much he loves his Lifetime Outdoor Storage Box. Stan likes to cook meat using a smoker and needed a place to store his smoker on his deck and protect it from the elements. He devised a cleaver way to do this with his Lifetime Storage Box. First, he secured the box standing on one end. Then, he built a sliding shelf in it. Now, whenever he wants to smoke his meat he opens the “door” of the box and slides out the shelf. Voila, the smoker is ready to go. When he is done with it, and the smoker has cooled, he sli... More

This past Sunday afternoon I was able to skip out of church a little early to do a radio interview with our friends at 96.5 FM in Florida. Ken and Jared, father and son, do a weekly home improvement show called "In the House" where they invite “experts” in various categories to come talk about products to improve your home. As part of this interview, they are giving away a Lifetime 7'x7' Storage Shed model 60042. This was the third show of this type that I have done since I’ve been here at Lifetime. I keep a tally of the number of times I say “um” or “like” or some other filler word. This time I only counted six which was a big improvement. I have to admit it is fun talking about something I am so passionate about. I am very content working out in the garden, and with the great weath... More

We have been busy over the past year developing a new shed. The new Lifetime 8'x 10' shed capitalizes on the experience we have gained from our previous sheds and brings some great new features.  If you are familiar with our sheds, you will notice the overall look of this new shed is different. One of the most noticeable differences is the shed walls now have a vertical siding look. Next difference? Windows!  We do extensive market research with customers and you told us you like windows. So, we listened to your feedback and added even more windows by putting some in our newly designed doors. Windows allow light into the shed and give it a nice look. The operable window in the sidewall allows airflow so if you are working in the shed you can stay cool. Another difference in this new shed is the roof pitch is high... More

This giveaway has ended. You asked for it so we listened!  In December when we asked giveaway entrants to tell us what they would buy if they won a gift certificate to the Lifetime Store, one of the most popular answers was a Lifetime Shed.  So, this month, one lucky winner will win a Lifetime 7'x7' Storage Shed!  We figured it's the perfect time to give away a shed since some of you probably made a resolution to get more organized this year, others are still trying to figure out where to store all their holiday decorations, and a few more of you might be starting your spring cleaning already. This 7'x7' shed retails for $929 in the Lifetime Store online and is one of our newer and most popular sizes.  (Whoa!  Can you say HUGE product giveaway?)  In addition to its convenient size, o... Eeny Meeny Miny Mo - Picking Our Lifetime Basketball Hoop
Cute house. Nice yard. But, something's still missing. Take a closer look. Yes, our big three-car driveway is just screaming for a basketball hoop! Don't you agree? :) As some of you may know, my husband is a pilot in the military and we have recently moved - again. This time to beautiful Colorado. I'm thrilled to report that after 12 years of working for Lifetime in some manner, wefinallyhave a house that has a driveway perfect for a Lifetime basketball hoop. It turns out that finding a great driveway to play basketball is the easy part. Now, we have to decide exactly where we want to put the basketball system, whether we want an in-ground or portable system, and what model and features are best for us. First things first. Location. After a quick survey of our driveway, my husband and I decided that placing the system cen...
