Position at Lifetime Products- Watersports Marketing Manager for Lifetime and Emotion brand kayaks

How long at Lifetime Products- Since January 2012!  I came as a packaged deal with the acquisition of Emotion Kayaks where I’d been for over a year.

Topics I blog about- Events and news in water sports, places to kayak, and enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.

My favorite products from Lifetime- Any of the Kayaks and paddleboards.  One of these days I’ll get my hands on a Fold-up Trailer and a Camp and Tailgate Table!

On a Saturday afternoon you can find me- This question will always depend on the season!  When the weather outside is frightful, you can find me at one of the nearby ski resort enjoying the fresh snow and crisp air or snowshoeing through the mountains.  Once the sun is shinning and the birds are chirping, my Saturdays are spent outdoors hiking, backpacking, biking, paddle boarding or my most favorite activity of all, kayaking!  All while enjoying the company of good friends of course!

My favorite escape- Anything whitewater, whether it be kayaking or rafting.  A more relaxing escape would be taking my camera out into the wilderness to photograph everything from wildlife to serene landscapes.

Recreational kayaking is a fun and safe way for the whole family to enjoy the outdoors.  Many people are a little apprehensive when they hear the word "kayaking."  They imagine people dropping off of 20 foot waterfalls and paddling through big wavy rapids.  But that isn’t the only way to kayak.  In fact, the largest segment of kayaking is within the recreational sector.  What is recreational kayaking?  Recreational kayaking refers to paddling on flat water lakes, bays, slow-moving calm river ways, and calm oceans.  No rapids involved!  Flat-water paddling is a safe way to enjoy the water. Another misconception about kayaking is the Eskimo roll, which is another aspect of kayaking that only applies to whitewater or sea kayaking.  Recreational kayaks are not meant to roll and ... More

Another year of Outdoor Retailer (OR) has come and gone.  For those of you who don’t know what OR is, it is the largest outdoor industry trade show in the whole world!  It is held in our backyard in downtown Salt Lake City.   This year, we also had the industry Demo Day in our backyard as well because it was moved from Jordenelle Reservoir to Pineview Reservoir in Ogden Valley!  We spent all day on the beautiful banks of Pineview paddling and talking to folks from all over the world.  We were super busy and had tons of people stop by to give our boats a test run!  What a day! After Demo Day, the indoor show begins.  We spend months preparing and designing both our booth and new kayaks to unveil at the show.  This year we went all out, even more than we have in the past. ... These days, taking a family on a vacation is no easy feat.  Not financially and not logistically.  It requires money, planning, and time!  But it is totally worth it!  Times are changing and so are vacation options.  You don’t need to go to Disney Land to have a great family experience.  Why not plan a vacation around kayaking? Almost anywhere there is water, there is someone who rents kayaks.  But, if you have your own, that is great!  There are so many great paddling destinations in the United States it would take forever to list them all.  The best part about a kayaking vacation is that you often get to experience a new place or situation that so many others don’t get to!  Kayaking out to a secret cove, or down a calm moving river in a desolate canyon are all g... Father's Day is almost here.  If you’re like me, you are always rushing around trying to figure out what to do for Dad at the last minute.  For years I always based my Father’s Day gifts on two things, fish and sports.  My dad either gets the latest “Jets” (don’t hold it against him) football team sweatshirt or a nice wooden fish decoration to hang on the wall.  Since these were always my dad’s favorite activities, this always seemed like the best route, until he ran out of wall space for all those wooden fish decorations. I’m sure I’m not the only one at there who has a dad that loves fishing.  I mean loves it.  You know, the dad who gets up at 4am so he can get out on the water .  The dad who has more fishing rods than pairs of pants.  ... Memorial Day has past and summer’s had its unofficial start!  As the weather heats up and the kids finish up the school year, we are all in need of a vacation.  These days, taking that one big trip to Orlando or hopping on a  cruise to the islands can put a big hurting on the old wallet.   Many people are choosing smaller and more frequent vacations.  And lets be honest, who doesn’t want more vacations?  I know I do.  Here at Lifetime, we wonder, why can’t every weekend be a vacation?  Oh, but it can!! Having a few kayaks laying around for the family can make it easy, affordable and fun to stay closer to home this summer.  You can head to your local lake one weekend and the next weekend do a river float.  The options are endless!  You won’t b... Last year I wanted to come up with something original for a Mother’s Day gift.   I didn’t want to go with the traditional flowers, birdhouses, or candy.  Showing her how much she means to me and how much I appreciate everything she does is really important.    I racked my brain for days trying to come up with something creative, something different and something that could be enjoyed for more than just one day a year.  What would surprise her? What could I do that she wouldn’t expect?  Then it hit me!  A kayak!!   When Mother’s Day arrived she was never more excited!  Instantly she began listing off all the places she could go and how jealous all her friends would be.  I think the thing she liked the most was that now we could go out kay... For most people, when they think about kayaking, they think of a day trip to the local lake.  Maybe a vacation day spent floating on the ocean, watching the birds and listening to the calm ocean ripples.  While these trips are great, with just a bit more effort, you can really turn a kayaking trip into a fun filled outdoor adventure. What better way to bond with your family or a group of friends then to be outside, away from all the electronic distractions, kayaking and camping in the wilderness.  There are several ways to enjoy a camping and kayak trip.  Some rivers flow through campgrounds, parks or national forest land allow camping right along the banks of the rivers.   This type of trip can be great for a weekend get-a-way.  Day one is spent paddling a few miles to ... This spring, our watersports department has done something we never have before!  We are coming out with a limited edition paddleboard. Sure, this will be the Freestyle XL board we all know and love but there is something that makes it special; its Purple!  Not only is this our first limited edition kayak or paddleboard, it is also our first purple one! In total, there will be 325 Purple Freestyle XL’s out there for the lucky few who can get there hands on one.  I am personally a huge fan of purple, and I think this board looks great.  It has all the great characteristics of our other color boards; stability, buoyancy, padding, bungee straps and two fins. The dark purple color really blends well with the black bungees and confetti white and black foam.  It really pops and looks incredibly styl... More

At Lifetime, Commitment, Innovation, and Quality, is more than just a slogan, it is a way of doing business!   We are constantly working to take our kayaks to the next level, above and beyond what is already out there.  We take suggestions and advice from you, the people who use our kayaks, and incorporate that into our designs.  After a lot of hard work we’ve come up with a kayak that is like nothing you’ve ever seen!I would like to introduce our brand new tandem kayak, the Kokanee!  It is 10'6" in length and can hold a combined weight of 425 lbs!  Sure, there are other tandem kayaks out there, but nothing as innovative and paddler friendly as our Kokanee.  We racked our brains to come up with new improvements.  We wanted to do something that wasn’t out there al... It’s that time of year again for a lot of us.  Time to store that kayak away for the cold cold winter.  We are often asked about how to store a kayak while it is not being used, especially during the chilly winter months.  So today, I am here to offer up some winter kayak advice! First piece of advice, kayaks are not for sledding!  They go fast but they don’t like the cold, so keep them off of the snow!  Ok, now for the real tips.  As always, make sure you wash your kayak after use.  This is especially important when you will be putting it into storage for several months.  Mild dish soap and water works just fine, no need for fancy cleaners.  Make sure you remove sand and dirt, even from those little crevices. And, just think about how nice it will be to pull this baby... More

Fall Yard Sale Tips
Ive been to a lot of yard sales. At a recent one, I bought a 1921 replica Coca-Cola serving tray and made arrangements with a seller to pick up a refinished oak tool chest that I plan to use as a coffee table. After years of experience buying and selling, Ive also brought home what I call my three Ps for a successful yard sale: Planning, Presentation, and Pricing. Planning is crucial. If you sell it, they will come, right? Wrong. Run a classified ad in your local newspaper. Be sure to include popular and big-ticket items as well as the date, time, and location of your sale. Post a free listing at Craigslist.org also. Then make signs to put up at the nearest major intersections and other strategic spots to direct people to your sale. (Check with your local municipality or homeowners association first to make sure its okay to...
How Much Weight Can My Folding Table Hold?
One of the most frequently asked questions I hear at Lifetime as a member of the Tables Chairs team is: "How much weight will this folding table hold?" That's a pretty loaded question, no pun intended. You would think the answer would be pretty cut-and-dry. Truth is, it's actually quite complicated. But, as part of my continuing series on what features to look for when picking the perfect folding table, today I'm going to help answer that question while helping you understand why durability is so important to consider when buying a folding table. So, as a shopper, where should you start to try and figure out which table is strong enough for your needs? First, before you purchase a folding table, think about what you primarily want to use the table for. Paper crafts may not require as much durability as a table at a construc...
Corporate Semi-Annual Meeting Reveals Growth and Changes
This summers semi-annual company meeting was a brand new experience for me. Over past years here at Lifetime, all employees have had the opportunity to hear about the progress and state of the company. And since Lifetime is a privately-owned company, its important that the employees are directly involved! What was amazing was the opening part of the meeting where we saw how the company has been featured and showcased in public relations this year. From a spotlight on The Price is Right where our kayaks were a showcase prize, to thelocalnews where the work done in our metals and plastics factories took the front stage, to our service project at the Utah State University Botanical Center, and so much more. I could see that we definitely made waves this year! And these features on Lifetime are only the beginning. After hearing a...
